VETERANS IN TROUBLE

Tyler Bozak: Having a great camp, but suddenly his name is coming up in trade rumours. If the Leafs are interested in Phoenix hold-out Kyle Turris, or if Matthew Lombardi outplays him, things could get very uncomfortable for the third-year leaf.

Mike Komisarek: Having a good camp, looking very confident. He’s an alternate captain and a loyal soldier and GM Brian Burke loves him. Much has been made recently of his limited no-trade clause – Komisarek has a list of about 10 teams he’d accept a trade to. And he’s from Long Island, and the Islanders need a defenceman …. so connect the dots.

Carl Gunnarsson: He may be the Leafs best overall defenceman. Nothing bad seems to happen when he’s on the ice. But there’s no hype surrounding him and he might be too nice a guy for his own good. He’s a John Ferguson draft pick and there’s fewer and fewer of them around.

Matt Lashoff: Two years ago, a defenceman with Lashoff’s skill set would have made this team no problem. He may be the odd-man out now.

I dont know about thr Islanders..They had the same problem last year and did nothing about it…Its like they WANT to lose.  Keep in mind that was a whole year without now captain Mark Streit who is by far their best dman.  But trading Komiserak over there would be great for the Leafs even if he is given away for free.  This would mean we dont have to trade Carl.

Regarding Bozak I feel he has pretty much the same upside as Turris and I dont feel like trading for him is necessary.

Lastly I dont know why you mention Lashoff…hes a cast away, a nobody.  Just look what the Leafs "gave up" for him (Stefan Giliati and Alex Berry..also 2 nobodys).  He's an AHLer for life, a career callup at best.

  2. mojo19 says:

I disagree about Lashoff. He looked reallly solid when he came up at the end of last season and has continued to impress. I can see why he was a 1st round pick, he's got some skill for sure. I think he will make the team as the 8th defenseman over Gardiner, not because he's better than Gardiner, but because Jake's upside is really high and we don't want him in and out of the line up.

  3. Leafs_Wallace says:

Lashoff ceiling is what? A career 7th defenseman? Not to mention he's behind Finger and Gardiner on the Marlies.

  4. Leafs_Wallace says:

Habs sign Campoli, great pick up for them, I can see them competing for the division title this season.

  5. KingCanada says:

He was a late first round pick over 6 1/2 years ago lol.  I think the clock is up on his "potential"…he is what he is.  A good AHLer but a first round bust.  His numbers are quite underwhelming in the NHL and there is a reason he is on his 3rd NHL team.

When he was traded from Boston to TB there was more or less good value coming back…but traded from Tbay he was given away and has done not much since.

He has never played more then 18 games in a NHL season because hes a career callup/injury filler.  You are right though…he will be one of our healthy scratches as an 8th D…

Yeah it's a curious thing: he's behind Finger and Gardiner yet always seems to be in front of opposing players who are in front of our goalie. He still can't get the position….has any coach ever tried Lashoff on a wing? I think that would be an interesting experiment since he seems more at ease in the O zone.

  8. toronto77 says:

i do not want bissonnette, this guy is such a douche bag.lol

  9. LeafsFTW17 says:

biznasty cant make the yotes, he isnt making the leafs and I think our team right now is better then the one you have there.

  10. Leafs_Wallace says:

Tyler Seguin scored two preseason goals, wow, the Kessel deal is blowing up in our faces.

  11. alpalstewart says:

i dont see how it could hurt to try him on the wing, fourth line and train him to become a great penalty killer. one thing ive heard about matt lashoff is that he's a world class skater with world class speed, penalty killer on the wing like a 3rd defence, leafs should try it out, like i said it couldnt hurt.

  12. alpalstewart says:

i'm gonna guess that RNH sticks with the OILERS this year, sam gagner they say could miss up to 20 games to start the season.

  13. palindrom says:

Who is your #01 goalie then

    Reimer or Nabokov?

  14. palindrom says:

I will tell you Something, and i will tell you right now.

    Something right now.

  15. JoelLeafs says:

Christ, I can handle trolls that make me laugh or do something interesting, but this chick is boring the hell out of me.

    Please, keep these gems coming.
  16. 93killer93 says:

    Reimer would be the starter.

  17. mojo19 says:

Ya, i'm not sayig he'll ever be a top 4 defenseman, but if he gets to play I think he could still prove that he's an NHL defenseman. I would like to see him make the team as the one of the 6, 7, 8 D-men.

  18. mojo19 says:

Palindrom is a huge loser, we all already know that.

  19. mojo19 says:

The same Campoli who had that brutal turnover in game 7, OT that ended the Hawks season agaisnt Vancouver? Same guy who in 6 NHL seasons has never been a plus player.

    Here are Campoli's stats

    2006, GP 80, 9 G, 25 A = 34 pts, -16
    2007, GP 51, 1 G, 13 A = 14 pts, -3
    2008, GP 46, 4 G, 14 A = 18 pts, -1
    2009, GP 76, 11 G, 19 A = 30 pts, -16
    2010, GP 67, 4 G, 14 A = 14 pts, -3
    2011, GP 77, 4 G, 17 A = 21 pts, E

This guy is a pretty soft player, low intensity, but he's a decent b-level puck mover generally good for 20-30 pts if he plays a full year, so I guess he'll be a decent bandaid while Markov is hurt (again).

I don't think this is a great move my Montreal but they had to do something with that defense.

  20. realistic_leafs_fan says:

No, Lashoff will never live up to his draft selection, but he is an NHL caliber defencemen and I would be fine with him as part of my 5-6 pairing. He is a cheap, servicable d-man with decent size that can move the puck and isn't afraid to play the man.

  21. realistic_leafs_fan says:

Beyond it's not happenin, I like the fact that someone else besides myself is not afraid to try Lombardi on the wing with his speed and keep Turris/Bozak at centre on the third line.

Armstrong-Bozak/Turris-Lombardi looks great to me…I think I've already said this before though.LOL

  22. toronto77 says:

ya but we won the kaberle deal way more than the bruins won the kessel deal.

  23. mapleleafsfan says:

    He's being sarcastic.

  24. reinjosh says:

That is a weird 6 years. He's almost has it patterned. -16 1st year, -3 next, -1/Even the third and then repeat the pattern. Same with points. That's weird. I wonder if he puts up 30 plus points this year and a -16.

  25. mojo19 says:

haha, if he was only on for 1 more goal against last year…

  26. palindrom says:

All Right. You know i'm looser right?
Well, double how looser you think i am then double that again and you will have a good idea.
