    This is from sportsnet.ca

    ROUND ONE

    1. Atlanta: D Stephane Robidas from Montreal.

(Traded to Dallas for sixth-round 2003 entry draft pick)

    2. Columbus: D Mathieu Biron from Tampa Bay.

    3. Florida: F Petr Tenkrat from Nashville.

    4. Nashville: D Francis Bouillon from Montreal.

    5. New York Rangers: F Ronald Petrovicky from Calgary.

(New York exposed veteran F Sandy McCarthy, who must now clear waivers.)

    6. Washington: D Rick Berry from Pittsburgh.

(Washington dropped veteran D Sylvain Cote from the protected list. He must clear waivers to return to the Caps.)

  2. Obcd says:

They surely protected Lindsay after the fisrt pick and either Traverse or Odjick after the second. I never taught Montreal was so deep in talent.

    So is the Draft over????????

  4. TheDevil says:

Apart from Heinze, nothing good to grab.

  5. Freeze says:

6 players? That’s it? How uneventful.

  6. Obcd says:

Heinze wasn’t picked and 6 players did so I think there was something better

  7. Habfan1234 says:

That is why they had two players taken away from them in the waver draft. They had so much defensive depth that they could not protect, but they still have eigth solid NHL defensmen on the team.

  8. Habfan1234 says:

I say thank you to the Thrashers for taking Robidas. He was a defensive liabilty for the Montreal canadiens all year. He played in 56 games last year and was a MINUS 25. I cringed every time he was on the ice. The Canadiens have two fine young defensmen that will be mainstays for years to come (Komi and Hainsey).

  9. Leaf_Expert says:

NO, The way i meant my question to be is,”Now the draft is over, how did it do for your team?”

  10. TheBricks says:

SATHER YOU DID IT AGAIN! THANK YOU FOR EXPOSING ONCE AGAIN A FAN FAVORITE! WHY NOT OLIWA!!!!!!

  12. mikster says:

Oliwa brings more toughness, is cheaper, younger.

McCarthy wasn’t as tough as he should have been this pre-season. He gets paid to drop gloves, hit hard, be responsible defensively, draw penalties, and then score if there’s a chance. His mistake was putting “scoring” up first before any of those categories.

You can’t have a McCarthy, an Oliwa, and a Barnaby all in one team.

Though i prefered Sandman over Barnaby, it turned out the wrong way.

Am i upset? Very, i liked Sandman, but i can’t avoid the fact that he is aging and not doing his main job.

Petrovicky wasn’t a bad pick up at all. The youngster still played just two NHL season (not full) and is really really fiesty, an agitator.

Also, Rucinsky could be signed, probably will be, next week. They probably had to get rid of McCarthy’s salary.

In then end, who knows…maybe no one will pick his salary up. That would be great for us.

  13. mikster says:

Heinze is old, overpaid….4th line player. What good id he?

  14. Heinzee57 says:

I wouldn’t mind seeing Sandy McCarthy in Black and Gold…

He always shoots pucks up into our section during warm ups. Cool guy.

We need a bigger goon than PJ Stock.

I read on ESPN.com that Atlanta got future considerations from Dallas for Stephane Robidas.

  16. Forsberg21 says:

Berry was a good pickup. He will develop into a steady, physical presence on the blueline.

  17. amok says:

Then you should have phrased it like that in the first place.

And to answer your question, the draft worked out pretty well for the Canucks. No one picked up Baumgartner or Helmer.

  18. Lint07 says:

You know what? I would’ve give Traverse and Dykhuis any day of the week just to keep Robidas and Bouillon.

Dykhuis (last year playoffs) and Traverse are the most ”error-prone” (sp?) defensemen of the team in my opinion. They both drive me crazy every time they touch the puck!

  19. Lint07 says:

I simply can’t understand why Pittsburgh gave up so quick on this guy. I mean they acquired him at last year trade deadline, give him a chance.

It’s not like they were strong at D anyways…

  20. Lint07 says:

Is there a HTR Hockey Pool comin’ up or what??

Didn’t heard about it for a while… Please keep us updated.

    Thanx!

  21. mikster says:

    we will….

doesn’t have to start on Oct. 9, it could start also a bit later, but we’ll see.

We’re trying to do what’s best for the site.

  22. amok says:

I’m looking for a couple more people to play in a rotiserrie (sp?) league I have set up on Yahoo. Message me if you’re interested.

  23. Overtime says:

I know what you mean. 30 teams were involved and only 6 guys got picked up. What a yawn.
