Tennessee's a beautiful state.Don't know what the Nashville Predators are or sell NHL 12 in its stores…But beautiful state.

  2. Steven_Leafs says:

Leafs make a minor league swap:

    To Toronto:

    Nicolas Deschamps

    To Anaheim:

    Luca Caputi

Both are kind of struggling this season with their AHL clubs so this deal looks like a way to spark both players. Nice to see a trade finally but was kind of hoping for a bigger impact.

  3. senators_choke says:

Apparently Deschamps can skate and has soft hands, but he's said to be inconsistent. So I suppose he's worth a shot for only Caputi.

  4. TheLeafNation91 says:

Caputi had no chance joining the Leafs…At all.

Deschamps was drafted by Burke, must be one of those familiarity trades where Burke obviously knows the type of player he's getting.

Still a young kid, had  a very solid season last year in the AHL. This year has struggled, but still a low risk move for a project player.

    No issues with it.

  5. dumbassdoorman says:

This trade certainly isn't going to hurt the Leafs. Though here is hoping both them and Ana. going on torrid 15 game losing streaks, which leads to bigger trades……lol

  6. reinjosh says:

I like it. Caputi was going nowhere and needed a start somewhere else. Burke and co knew who they were targeting and got a prospect they are familiar with. Plus he's got three things I love in a prospect: size, soft hands and speed. Probably will turn out to be nothing more than a depth move for the Marlies but it has some small potential at least.

  7. senators_choke says:

Boy, does Tampa suck or what?

  8. senators_choke says:

Plus the last trade Burke did with Anaheim turned out to be gold, so why not try again?

  9. TheLeafNation91 says:

Their goalie cannot stop flying poop.

    Also, they do miss Hedman.

  10. LeafsNation4Ever says:

I thought Stamkos looked like a beast out there tonight… If his team had been with him, nothing could have stopped them.

  11. Boston_Bruins says:

Is Ryan Murray even going to get drafted after that showing? Lol yikes.

Really impressed with Dougie tonight. It seemed like he played like 15 minutes in the third.
Anyways, very entertaining game, but what a disappointment.
  12. TheLeafNation91 says:

    I was 1/2 on predictions:

    – I said USA would go far (bombed that one)

    – I said this was a weaker Team Canada then most (Still feel that way)

  13. mapleleafsfan says:

Dougie looked like a beast, definitely a sweet pick up for you guys.. One thing though, him stepping out of the way of a shot late in the game was pretty weak. Maybe the goalies just told them to gtfo of the way cause they're tipping everything in.

Awesome comeback, too bad it fell short. Didn't deserve to win after seeing the D quit on the last goal though.
I blame Murray's hat trick and goaltending once again. I miss the days where Canada had the best goalies in the world – those days are long gone.
Ballsy move by russia pulling their goalie. Had it not worked I bet he would have been criticized to hell.
  14. TheLeafNation91 says:

The last 2 World Jr. Championships show Russia has future NHL All-Stars in their system:

-Kuznetsov (My god, I hate Washington)
-Orlov (Whose doing great with Washington thus far, not fair)

    Potential stars:

-Vasilevski (tough tournament for a 16 year old player, think he was a bit exhausted)

  15. MystifoLeafs says:

I don't know how to feel. On one hand I am still  in my pool with my friends.

But on the other hand the team I picked put out Canada. Oh well it was a great effort by Canada but Russia deserved that win. I mean they outplayed Canada for an entire 40 mins.
As for the Murray not being drafted that high you got to remember it is just the Juniors it does not affect your drafting rank that much. I mean Andrei Valevelski has played an amazing World Juniors but his stock will stay similar maybe have a spot or two but it wont be like "He is being drafted in the top 10 now because he had an amazing juniors so that will mean success in the NHL.". It is the play in their league that determines where they are drafted the Juniors just moves you up a few spots.
That being said I can see Valeveski maybe going in the late first round. Maybe say if Columbus or such picks up a late first rounder off a team for spare parts I could see them taking a shot.
  16. NonLeafFansAreGay says:

Man Canada should've tied that up.

I literally wanna rip that post off and melt it hoooooly craap
  17. Kessel_Leafs48 says:

Seriously believe that leafs are 2 moves away from making the playoffs and competing.(dont wanna say they'll go far but they could pull off a montreal type run) area's need improving:

    big skilled top six forward
Two teams seriously considering a trade right now.. Anaheim (Bobby Ryan) and Columbus (most likely nothing major just a couple minor moves to try to jumpstart their team) Trades i wanna see happen..
To Anaheim: Gunnarson, macarthur, kadri (tho i like the way hes been playing) and a first
To Toronto: Bobby Ryan, 4th rounder
    To columbus: Bozak
To toronto: sami pahlsson, 4th round pick
Reasoning: bobby ryan will give toronto a proven 30 goal scorer and possibly 40 goal scorer and will provide a sick second line of ryan- grabo- kuli that is big, fast and skilled with a lot of scoring potential and why break up lupul and kessel? and pahlsson is also a faceoff and penalty kill specialist.. and if he doesnt improve our PK ill really start looking at a new coach. Really think pahlsson is the modern day mike peca.
    Lupul- connolly – kessel
    ryan-  grabo – kuli
    frattin- pahlsson- armstrong
    brown- steckel – lombardi
    Phaneuf – Gardiner
    Schenn – liles
    Franson – Komisarek
Short note:  Gardiner.. best leafs defencemen??  hasnt let me down so far this season.. tho i like phaneufs play and impressed with how good liles is. need him back soon. Id leave the goal tending till the deadline and see if reimer cant turn his play around.. he hasnt been bad but hasnt been as good as last year/beginning of the season. If things still struggle at deadline.. start looking elsewhere.
  18. TheLeafNation91 says:

Would love it if it was Getzlaf…LOL

  19. TheLeafNation91 says:

    Would also keep Bozak.

Hard worker and a very good faceoff player.

Isn't Pahlsson a UFA at years end? Why not sign him to a two-year contract?

    Why not?

Actually, I have ZERO idea whats going to happen.

    We'll wait and see.

  20. Steven_Leafs says:

I think it would be a huge mistake for the Leafs to trade their 1st round pick right now unless we get top 10 value for it. If the Leafs drop in the standings and lose yet another top 10 (especially in this draft) I might just lose it.

  21. dumbassdoorman says:

I don't think Burke will trade this years 1st unless it envolves and impact player coming back. I know he has said it was in play, however, some reading between the lines also needs to be done.

  22. JoelLeafs says:

You could always start a blog and spare us.

  23. JoelLeafs says:

He sure love trading with the Ducks.

  24. TheLeafNation91 says:

I would…But then I would not be able to hear from you.

  25. blaze says:

If that's the price for Bobby Ryan no thanks. Gunnarson is quietly on his way to becoming the Leafs best all around defensemen. MacArthur though expendable is still a solid guy more or less playing to expectations.

Not at all eager to give up Kadri, who could easily develop into a 30 goal scorer. He's playing well right now and though he has a long way to go he easily has the best hands and most creativity on the Leafs already. That first could be anywheres, watching another top prospect go elsewhere (maybe Gaunce?) is not something I want.

Unless it's for an true top notch first line center it's not worth it.

  26. reinjosh says:

Well 1 game and 1 goal for him as a Marlie.

  27. reinjosh says:

They need to get their hands on a young goalie and a young stud dman. Maybe a low finish will help them this year. They can pick a Trouba, Murray, Dumba, Reilly with their pick and then make a draft day trade for a Lindback, Schneider or Bernier.

  28. reinjosh says:

Crazy game. As much as it hurts watching Canada loose, the Russian-Canada games have been some of the best World Junior games in recent years. From the Eberle heroics to last years crazy ass Russian comeback victory and then this years almost comeback but Russian holding it off victory. Always an exciting game no matter where the teams are playing.

And Dougie was great. I've been very impressed. Its a shame he's not a Leaf but at least I'll get to see him play lots (not a joke haha). I picked him up in my keeper league for a prospect spot 😛
  29. TheLeafNation91 says:

A lot of relief on the Russian side, a lot of concern on the Canadian side.

Not to mention, Ovie's back…While Crosby might never be back.

  30. reinjosh says:

Yakupov…drool. Friggin unreal talent. Grigorenko is showing huge Malkin like potential (and is almost a year younger than Yakupov).

Seriously, Washington is friggin amazing. Kuznetzov is unreal. Orlov is playing quite awesome, and isn't shying away physically either. Both are nice little backup plans if Semin and Green get moved. Plus the the top ten pick they could get (imagine if they grab Galchenyuk).
I'd add Kucherov and Kokhlachev to the potential future stars list as well. They have some high end offensive skill on Russia.
  31. TheLeafNation91 says:

Is Galyenchuk Russian or American? I saw dual citizenship so I don't know he would be representing.

Yakupov reminds me of a young Zach Parise, maybe with more high-end skill.

Not sure about Kucherov and Kokhlachev, but Gusev was decent. Namestikov (London Knights/TBL 1st rounder?) was actually cut from this team.

The only issue with this country is finding defencemen, forwards and goalies they are very good in producing.

The only potential star defencemen for Russia in the future is Orlov, Kullikov (Whom I'm a big fan of), and I've been impressed with Slava Voynov (of the LA Kings). Besides that, nothing.

  32. Boston_Bruins says:
Yeah really. No matter what the outcome, there's been some epic games between these two.

I thought Dougie's tournament was just ok up until last night. He can deliver big hits and the offensive potential is there but he needs to shore up his decision making. But once the coach set him loose when they were down by 5, he took parts of the game over. I haven't seen a defenseman pinch that much in a long time lol.

  33. Boston_Bruins says:

Galchenyuk is a mix but I think he is primarily American. At least he would have been on the American WJC team.

As for Koko, he looks impressive for a 2nd rounder and he was the youngest player in the draft this year. Then again, I'm biased as a Bruins fan.
But Russia looks very strong. It's always the question of whether they'll come over though.
  34. reinjosh says:

So 9 games in and Nazem is looking pretty solid. He's improved his defensive play and is playing the game smart. Plus he's contributing offensively and creating lots of chances. 5 points in 9 games is pretty decent. Not amazing but then again he only has 30 games of experience before this year so its not bad. Be patient with the kid people, he's going to be a nice offensive player for years to come.

  35. Boston_Bruins says:

I caught flashes of the Tampa game and I noticed this. I remember watching him in the preseason a couple years ago and he kept getting easily bounced off the puck. Watching him last night he had more than one play where he held players off with his body. He really seems to be coming around.

  36. TheLeafNation91 says:

I'm still not convinced he wont be dealt if a first-line Center is available and Burke makes a trade for one.

  37. dumbassdoorman says:

I dont think anyone is safe if a true first line centre becomes avail. outside of Kessel and Lupul

  38. Kessel_Leafs48 says:

would you do it if it was say.. getzlaf and a 3rd for that package?  getzlaf is already proven and a big body at centre and would work well with lupul while creating space for kessel.

the reason for trading bozak for pahlsson is simply because if we aquired pahlsson there would be no room on the roster for bozak and we have lombardi to fill a whole at center if theres an injury. Do you link columbus would take lombardi for pahlsson and say a 4th ? id also do that. I think pahlsson would help the team so much.. this could be a steckel type aquisition, nobody thinks much about it but steckel was such a good pick up and what we deffinately needed.
  39. blaze says:

    Getzlaf yes, Ryan no.

  40. Kessel_Leafs48 says:

Fair enough..  i think getzlaf would thrive in a hockey market, seems like a people person and just loves attention and having fun while wanting too win. Would live to have getzlaf and phaneuf as the face of our the leafs franchise. Big tough and skilled.

  41. reinjosh says:

My guess is its going to be Colborne traded. He's the prospect every team would want and if we get that top line center he's expendable (with Bozak, Connolly, Grabovski). He's got the size, he has the playmaking.

Then again seeing as both of them have been showcased, I almost think that both are available and its going to come down to the choice of the team trading the top line center.

  42. reinjosh says:

I've been very surprised with Koko. I'm a big fan and was hoping he'd be a Leaf 2nd round pick. I'm becoming an even bigger fan since he was drafted. Top ten in OHL scoring in only his second season and quite impressive in the WJC.

I think the Bruins got a steal.
  43. reinjosh says:

Yeah he's really improved. I'm excited to continue watching him.

  44. dumbassdoorman says:

You could be right, who knows? Time will tell if we get anyone…..hopefull it won't be until we are well out of the playoff picture……lol

  45. lafleur10 says:

what a game last night! but man does canada ever have to start producing goalies if we are going to win gold again at the wjc's! that performance last night by sievetin and wedgewood was brutual, but i'm still proud of our boys especially the 2 players that the habs have that were on team canada, gallagher, bournival, and beaulieu they're going to be awesome1 also those 2 russians yakupov and grigorenko are sick  i hope the habs lose more and the oilers and islanders pass us because then we're in the top 5 of the draft lottery and have a chance to land of of those guys! also i think hockey canada has to start taking more players from the western hockey and less from the ohl and qmjhl.

  46. mapleleafsfan says:

How can you be proud of beaulieu after that performance on their 6th goal? What a quitter. Gallagher was a beauty though.

  47. lafleur10 says:

the whole team was a quitter except for the last 10 minutes of the game that's why we are playing fir bronze! plus beaulieu's young and made a mistake alot of players at that age and level make mistakes,it's how the rebound and learn from it will determine how good of nhler they'll be and bealieu will be just fine as a pro,.gallagher is going to be awesome

  48. TheLeafNation91 says:

I like Bealieu, he was pretty banged up in the tournament. Gallagher will be like Cammalleri and a decent second-line player for the Habs if developed properly.

Bournival, not a big fan of and not impressed with him. He will most likely be anywhere between a bottom-six forward or career AHLer.

  49. lafleur10 says:

gallagher will be developed properly he will spend some time in hamilton and learn and will be brought along slowly,i thnk gallagher will be a top 6  as well we have very nice pieces going forward, you can add louis leblanc to that mix too!  beaulieu will be a very good defenceman for us to so will tinordi ,i think bournival will be a guy carbonneau type  and if he turns out like carbo he'll be a good player. ln91 what do you think if we get lucky and land yakpov or grigorenko? man that will be some very good young talent coming

yaakupov,(grigorenko),gallagher, leblanc, ellar, subban, beaulieu,,pacioretty, price, that's some nice pieces to build around
