Western Conference, Round 1!

With the last two teams in the West clinching their playoff berths last night, it only seems appropriate for first round predictions to be made now. What with the jostling for position that will take place over the next 2 or so games, this is how I think the West will likely end up looking:

1 – Detroit

2 – Dallas

3 – Calgary

4 – Nashville

5 – San Jose

6 – Anaheim

7 – Colorado

8 – Edmonton

My prediction: DETROIT in 6

While Edmonton is a good team, they won’t have the ability to take on a very well balanced Detroit team.

My prediction: DALLAS in 5

Colorado just isn’t the powerhouse they used to be. Sakic will have one outstanding game, where he’ll lead the Avs over the Stars, but Dallas will prevail, winning the series at the Pepsi Center.

My prediction: CALGARY in 7

Remember last year? Calgary’s going to take this series the length and the “Red Mile” will once again glow red. Anaheim will put up a valiant fight, but won’t be able to get the last goal they’ll need to beat Calgary in Game 7 (gut feeling that it’ll be a 1 goal game)

My prediction: SAN JOSE in 5

San Jose is hot right now. Red hot. I think it’ll take a top-3 team to take down the Cheechoo train and Jumbo Joe, not to mention the secondary scoring they have.

2nd round? Well, let’s wait for the first round to be settled before going there. A LOT can happen in just one round (who knows…injuries happen).

Disagree with my 1st round predictions? Let me know what you think!

First thing, the rankings are final in the West, so I think everyone will agree on them… except maybe some leafs fans trying to be interesting since they have nothing to talk about anymore…

DET vs EDM: DET in 5

They managed to do it AGAIN this year again and win the presidents trophy, so if the have to be eliminated, it’s not gonna be by the Oilers… sorry edmonton…

DAL vs COL: DAL in 6

I just can’t wait to see Theodore choke and prove Gainey right once again! DAL is just too good for them…

CGY vs ANA: ANA in 7

I know, it kills me too, but I think ANA might go far this year… they have just been too hot in the last games. But I think it’s gonna be the best series… have you seen the end of yesterday’s game??? Good ol’ hockey!!! They didn’t give a f**k about the game, they juste wanted to kick anaheim’s ass in the end!!! Hope I’m wrong on this one…

NSH vs SJ: SJ in 5

Maybe with Vokoun, they could have won 1 or 2 games, but now forget about it… And it’s too bad because they had a great season, but they won’t be able the stop the best pair of the league… not with Mason…

    GO HABS GO!!!!!

I think colorado will give a better fight then what your saying.

and same goes with nashville, but San Jose will go out on top in that series.

    Everything else i agree with.

  3. zdeno_duchesne says:

i agree.. another thing to mention about the san jose nashville series is that nashville is without vokoun, and although mason has played well, vokoun is the hands-down mvp on that team. nashville gives up a LOT of shots, and vokoun is the one that keeps them in the close games, which will be plenty in the playoffs.

I think that Edmonton-Detroit will go 6 or 7 games. Edmonton matches up well with Detroit and, Pronger and Peca will finally show their true value come playoff time.

Dallas and Colorado will also be a better series then people are anticipating. But, Dallas will prevail.

  5. gemini_the_drunk says:

I am not sure who will win the Anaheim-Calgary series but I think that if Calgary wins, Dallas-Calgary will be the best series.

  6. almelo95 says:

I agree. Dallas fattened up their win total in shootouts this year and they don’t get the benefit of those at playoff time. I think Dallas will win in 7, but it would not surprise me at all to see Colarado take them out.

  7. tha__CrOwBaR says:

colorado will win this series…thoedore will do something big and he has won series than turco…also the team purposely lost their 2 games to avoid detroit and calgary…i know that every team will do that…like everybody says dallas will win, remember 2004 everyone said that, but the avs cleaned them up in 5 games with granato coaching and aebischer in net…expect this series to go in 7 games…calgary and anahiem will be kipper vs. jiggy and it will be a low scoring series, but the flames will win in 6.. san jose is dangerous with cheechoo and thornton to hard to stop, that will be in 5 games….detroit will beat up edmonton in 5 games…their offence is balanced, and bab***** is an excellent coach..not a dave lewis..

  8. paul_dc10 says:

just throughing it out there, calgary has a Goaltender named (maybe youve heard of him) “Mikka Kipprosoft” weird eh

  9. Habs_no1_fan says:

Yes a goaltender who went to the finals one time in his life… like another goaltender… I don’t know if you know him.. JS Giguere!!! Don’t get me wrong, Kipper is better then Giguere, no doubt, but anaheim is really better in front and Giguere has proved he can take a team far when he’s at the top of his game!
