Stats are very telling and useful. Not all stats are equal. I'm sure an analysis deeper than most wins in a season would reveal much more about the leafs and Raycroft that year.

yeah I know Iginla wants to stay and Calgary wants to keep him but I think that is a mistake. If Calgary cannot jump into a playoff position by January, they should trade him for as much as possible. The fact is he is on a decline, it may be as slow as a crawl but it is there and if they wait even one year to trade him they wont get as much for him.

Of course stats are important, but you have to remember to always use common sense.

I've been trying to make this point with people for 5 years.

The latest example is the Leafs' goals for stat. I don't care if the Leafs have been scoring well lately, the Leafs can certainly use 1 or 2 top game breakers, as most teams.

Do you see what Bobby Ryan can do? He isnt exactly scoring tap ins. He is amazingly skilled. Look at the jump in points for Perry that coincided with the arrival of Ryan. 54 to 76. Getzlaf was already a star, but he too benefits from what Ryan brings to the table. Its not like he is just mooching points. If traded, his loss would be felt.

He is, he was not drafted behind Crosby for no reason. That goal in the playoffs against Nashville was pure skill, not because of Getzlaf or Ryan.

He is a gamebreaker, always beena huge fan of him. Not to mention, a power-forward with skill-set like that is a rarity.
