What would sell?

Quickly Lets think of ideas of what could market this site to make it bigger than it is.?

I’d say get much cooler design T-shirts or surfer shirts [long sleeve tshirts]

Possibly nicely designed bumper stickers.

A few ads on bigger sites [espn or Hockeynews] wouldnt hurt neither.

I think this site has HUGE potential.

what do you think?

    Thanks DaMick.

Ok, purpose of this article….PARTICIPATE. We don’t care if there are 100 people who have the same idea, we want to know.

    Thanks people.

the HTR store is presently being revamped.

    Have a look here

Please let us know some of the items that you would like to see.

The best tool we have is word of mouth look at what happend with WOWhockey,

jonathane and Nothingman have gone to great lengths to grow the site and now the membership is growing and the hits are on the up and up.

I still think my angle idea would work.

The amount of hits bobbyclarkemustgo.com got after the Star printed a quick blurp on it was amazing. With this in mind we know the HTR is awesome and the content is great so keeping people coming back is not an issue but there needs to be some sort of grand scheme to get people to come here.

I have emailed a few hosts @ the Fan590 as well as the Team 1050.

    We need to:

-Be the first to do something?

    -Do something crazy Unique?

-Maybe get more into the hockeyworld? We have a loyal following maybe we could get an interview with a player or coach etc.

And the community could submit questions you guys filter out the crap and ask away. I have never heard of an interview conducted by referendum before and we could ask the questions the fans want answered.

    How hard could it be?

Some of these players love the limelight and some of these lesser know Market GM’s will talk to anyone !

    I have a ton o’ ideas kicking around !

I just have to remember them

Work out deals with NHL team’s individual web sites to drive traffic to your web site.

For example, the Islanders web site posts links to News articles that are from all over the place. They might be willing to post articles about the home team that are chosen for this site.

See if the NHL is willing to add a link to your site on their network banner that is displayed on all team sites and NHL.com. It promotes the NHL and the community of fans.

Something that would be really cool but very difficult. You could make the site multi-lingual so hockey fans from all over the world can discuss the game. I’m sure many NHL fans would like to know first hand how well a European player is developing. You can read blurbs about prospects in the local papers but it’s usually only stats and vague descriptions.

The logistics of promoting a multi-lingual site to the rest of the world shouldn’t be that hard. Their are foreign search engines and foreign portal-like web sites where the workers will speak english and could probably help you drive foreign traffic.

Most importantly, a lot of Foreign hockey fans probably use the main search engines like Yahoo and Google because they have translators. If they are able to communicate maybe you might get some interesting articles. On stock message boards you get a lot of foreigners that use translators, that are available online, just so they can learn about their investments.

Hockey is quite popular all over the world. I believe the NHL has the biggest diversity of nations in their players than any of the other popular sports. Think about what articles could be submitted during the World Championships and the Olympics. If you successfully create a world community around hockey you will definately get noticed by the media.

One way to grow the site is try to get pop-ups or banners on sites such as tsn.ca, sportsnet.ca, faceoff.ca, and espn.com. Another idea is to try and get some interviews from players and from the GMS or Presidents of the teams. The questions would be from HTR members themselves.

  7. Slats says:

    is that not barrasso?

  8. titans says:

Better designed T-shirts are necessary. A better HTR logo would be nice. I know of a few artists like Kreativ and myself on this site. Make it an open competition to re-design the HTR logo. Then plaster that logo all over the place.

In the end though quality sells! Keep posting good, interesting articles that push the envelope a little. Make people think, and they’ll keep coming back.

  9. son says:

The shirts and the cups need something more….Kinda like a logo, an HTR logo. Alos I think the links to the WOW sites could look cooler. But the store is a good idea!

I like would like to see some interviews with NHL related people. I know it would be tough, but if anyone at all on this site knows someone related to NHL work or an upandcoming prospect, maybe they could try and interview them.

I would also like to see some contests. I am not really sure what about but I always like to particapate in them.

  11. Coldwar says:

1)I like the idea of a logo contest because the merchandise is boring. I like simple, but not sleepy. Have an open contest for anything from logo design to, well … anything hockey related. Get people involved and you’ll get better designs (like this brainstorming thing … you know yer getting better ideas since yer opening the creative process to more people). Just get people to send in neat stuff.

2)Email a sports-writer who is relatively known. Try to get someone to answer a standard 3,5,10 questions. Have that be a new column. You’ll get the writer’s point of view, plus his/her audience (substitute write for broadcaster, etc.)

3)Contact the teams. See what you can do about talking with someone on the team/staff/etc. I’ve seen Al Sobotka (zamboni driver) do TV interviews, why wouldn’t he want to do one online? Again, free publicity for the team, free publicity grabber for you.

    hey, peroni…

contact me on this post. i’ve tried to send private message via HTR and it apparently doesn’t work, so i need you to reach me.

  13. rrudd says:

it probably wouldn’t hurt to have a more marketable player and a more marketable design. site administrators: give me a private message.

  14. rrudd says:

    hey, trademan…

contact me on this post. i’ve tried to send private message via HTR and it apparently doesn’t work, so i need you to reach me.

  15. Coldwar says:

Maybe try to limit the homepage to posts that get lots of hits. I say this because when you visit a bbs or something like it … the first thing you do is read a couple of posts to see if there’s intelligent life in there… if the first posts they see, no one has replied to/etc. than they may not care long enough to stay.

  16. rrudd says:

i will email the site to all the hosts at “sportsradio 1310 the ticket” in dallas, but the main hockey guy, bob sturm, is already aware of it.

  18. Coldwar says:

Would it be too tough to get a chat engine running for possible chat w/guests, etc…

Imagine the fun with Sather or Quinn. It wouldn’t happen … I know. But couldn’t we just sit back and imagine it?

  19. SabresFanB says:

The way that I found this site was using a google search for “hockey trade rumors.” Again today I did a google search and saw that this website was the first one listed which is very good. But I just went to ask.com and typed in the same thing and I failed to see this site in the top 30. Maybe it would be a good idea to be the featured sponser on ask.com so you would come up first. And it may also be a good idea to call into a radio or tv talk show in your hometown as ask a question about a possible trade and say that you heard it from a website called “www.hockeytraderumors.com” It may sound cheesy, but it is free advertising. I hope you guys like the ideas.

  20. SabresFanB says:

I don’t think that popup adds are a good idea. How many people here even look at all the popup adds that ocme up. I know that i just x them out. But the banner idea on some sites might work out.

    So far so good.

If anyone is a good designer, then you can scan your designs of HTR logos and send them to me, DG, or Trademan. My e-mail is mikda1@go.com

Also, if you are a good designer on the pait program of windows, you can send those as well.

    Thank you all for this,

You could e-mail this site to espn personalities like John Buccigross, who does NHL2Nite on espn2,. You could also send it to E.J. Hradek and other writers. It’s really easy, just go to espn.com and find an article written by one of them, and their e-mail address is at the bottom. You never know, they might like it and talk to espn.com to create a link for it. It’s worth a shot.

  25. NewYorkRangers says:

You might wanna lower the prices too. I don’t know too many people that will spend $10 on a coffee mug or a mouse pad.

  26. UltimateB says:

Let’s sponser some powerplay time. 🙂 You know, this power play brought to you by Goodyear, except, Hockeytraderumors.com.

Since that’s a probably a smidge out of our league financially, I’d say submit the site to assorted sports magazines, (The Sporting News, The Hockey News, ESPN the Mag, SI) and see if you can get mentioned. Maybe get a little bit of add space. Just a bit of exposure will really promote the site.
