Kessel for Perry. 1 for 1 swap.

Makes sense, gives them Cap room without losing talent on the first line, gives us that offensive push

I don’t really like that deal. Like the guys on Hockey Central said,Though Perry is a better winger then Kessel, it’s a slight upgrade because you are still going to have a winger that doesn’t have a centremen to give him the puck.

Perry is a good player, but not having to play with a Getzlaf will probably lower his goal and point totals. I don’t think he will be as good in Toronto as he was in Anaheim.

Another opinion, I think it would be pointless to trade Kessel for Perry when we can have Perry for free in FA without giving up any assets just giving up cap space.

Like I mentioned in the other article, we should try to aqcuire Perry through FA, then try and trade Grabo’s big contract, Kulemin, Liles, maybe even a top prospect for a no.1 centre.

I know Grabo’s, Kule’s and Liles stocks have fallen but they are still some pretty damn good players, what the hell does it take to aqcuire a no.1 centre?

I wouldn’t even think of trading Kessel for Perry if you can’t aqcuire him through FA than forget it because it is a lateral move and just concentrate on getting Kessel a no.1 centre.

The type of a no.1 centre that we need for Kessel doesn’t have to be that talented like a Getzlaf, all we really need is a Backes or Brown type of power forward centremen.

Okay I agree, but the Leafs are gonna have to extend Kessel. Not a good idea to leave it to the last minute when he could be a UFA.

I’ve never bought the logic that “we can get that player for free in free agency”. In theory yes, we could, but it isn’t realistic. You throw your hat in the ring with about 20 other GM’s making legitimate, close to maximum value contract offers towards a star player and the odds are heavily stacked against you actually acquiring him.

Best thing to do would be to trade for him, or try to acquire his rights in the offseason if the Ducks opt to hold onto him. Either way, you need to be aggressive and try to get any edge you can over the other GM’s.

Looking at some of Ken Holland’s recent comments, and the recent trends in the NHL, these quality UFA’s are just not available ever. There is one every other year who makes to the open market, but lots of players have had their rights moved. Bouwmeester for Leopold and a 3rd to Calgary for example. He was the big UFA that summer and they made a push to get him before July 1st. This is where we should be looking to move.

Kessel for Perry makes a lot of sense. I know it’s only considered a slight upgrade, but so what? Perry is more of a heart and soul type of player and he brings us closer to a Stanley Cup in my opinion. He just brings more to the table.

And a potential future captain should we move Dion as well.
