World Cup Roster

Ok, well let’s stick with the theme and make a guess on the World Cup team for Russia. I was going to do Sweden’s too, but I decided one/customer. So here could be the Russian team for World Cup.

– Sergei Fedorov

– Pavel Datsyuk

– Alexi Yasin

– Viktor Kozlov

Left Wing.

– Ilya Kovalchuk

– Alexander Mogilny

– Vyacheslav Kozlov

– Sergei Samsonov

Right Wing.

– Alex Kovalev

– Valeri Bure

– Pavel Bure

– Maxim Afinogenov

– Sergei Zubov

– Sergei Gonchar

– Danny Markov

– Vladimir Malakhov

– Dmitri Kalinin

– Andrei Zyuzin

– Andrei Markov

– Nikolai Khabibulin

– They have a couple prospects in Russia. (Names?)

Other individuals:

– Oleg Kavasha

– Nik Antropov

– Fedor Fedorov

– Alexander Frolov

– Aleksey Morozov

Now I know I maybe missed a player or two so this is where I leave this. I couldn’t think of goal-tenders but I am guessing there are a couple. Either way have a good day.

  1. Donovan says:

    What? No Larionov?

  2. The_Conductor says:

Wow, am I sorry. How do I forget the Captian of the Russian squad. He leave Detroit and honestly I haven’t heard much about him. But yeah of course he is there with bells on.

Unless people are thinking he wont play because of age? He is old… but with 9 points this year he still proves he can play.

    Dono. thanks for correcting that.

  3. Donovan says:

I wasn’t being that serious, but he will be playing untill Gordie Howe age

  4. The_Conductor says:

Either way, he was a player that I missed that could be on the team… whether serious or not!

  5. spazmainia13 says:

I know he won’t be playing for them but….

What is the deal with Nabakov again? I mean the reason he can’t play for Russia?

And on another note, i was looking for another goalie that could play for Russia by clicking on all the European names. Theres like 12 Finishes goalies right now!!! Thats crazy, and almost none of them suck either!! Even more crazy!

  6. Bubblenuts says:

-Maybe Zherdev (age min), Frolov for sure

-Yuskie (if he’s keeping in shape)

-Tverdovsky is playing there now, no?

    -I doubt P.Bure…

    -Can Ovechkin play yet?

O/A Wow, they have some great talent to pick from.

  7. Bubblenuts says:

Thought it had something to do with he had already played internationally for another country. Like the Brett Hull Can/USA dealio.

    Can’t really remember specifics tho…

  8. Enigma says:

Mogilny doesn’t normally participate in these events, and pavel Bure’s career might be done.

  9. distance7 says:

Nabokov played for another country before he was going to play for Russia, and you’re only allowed to play for one country.

  10. distance7 says:

Did Mogilny play in the Olympics?

  11. The_Conductor says:

I dont know about anyone else, but I would love to see the line of Bure, Fedorov, and Mogilny again. I remember seeing video of those 3 playing in the world jr’s. Wow!!! But yeah will see if Mog. will play and if Bure can play. If not maybe it would be Val. Bure, Sergei Fedorov and Fedor Fedorov.

  12. The_Conductor says:

I believe there is actually a lot of Czech goalies too.

  13. The_Conductor says:

They actually have some size too. I remember seeing players around 6’5. But they don’t lack talent. But I will admit that Canada looks like a good team. But Canada, U.S, Czech, Sweden, Finland and Russia all have the ability to win.

  14. rojoke says:

Under IIHF rules, once you play in an international tournament for one country at the age of 19, you can’t play for another country. While this is an NHL tournament, using NHL rules and officials, it is an IIHF-sanctioned tournament, and the teams have to abide by the nationality rules. And I believe Nabokov played for Kazakhstan at either a World Junior tournament or European Junior Championship.

  15. rojoke says:

Ovechkin can play. He’ll be drafted in June, before the tournament starts. And there’s nothing saying that the teams are limited to NHL players only. Hey, Lindros played in the Canada Cup before he played and NHL game. Why wouldn’t Ovechkin be named to the team?

  16. Treva says:

I am going to take some heat for this one but…

I could see a guy like Artem Chubarov going, but as a spare. All those guys listed have some great talent, but not much in the way of defense and checking. If the russians were smart they would add a few grinders (on forward anyway) to take the low ice time shifts.

There could be others that i am just not thinking of as well

  17. the_expert_44 says:

the minus rating on that first d pair is at least -40. GOOD LUCK.

  18. TC_4 says:

Follow up on that, I don’t think there is an age limit for international competition is there? I could be wrong, but didn’t Mogilny play in the Olympics when he was 17???

  19. TC_4 says:

“Either way have a good day.”???? What ever happend to….”I’m Bob Layton…..I mean, Georgesy. I so silly.”

  20. The_Conductor says:

Well other then you and me, people would think were nuts. Aiight just for you TC.

And thats my article I’m Bob Layton… George no ur not your George Laraque on 92 power . 5. No no no George its Power 92.5. Oops my bad I am George Layton…

(Just so no one thinks were crazy, we are making fun on George Laraques Radio show on our local station). It is the worse show in the world. Makes you want to drive off a cliff… cause it would make you feel better.

P.S. Ducks and Oil. Thursday TC…

  21. The_Conductor says:

Was that the olympics or world jr’s. I know he as well as fedorov were about 17 and bure was 16 when they played for the world jr’s.

  22. The_Conductor says:

I honestly think +/- is so overrated!

  23. The_Conductor says:

    For example:

    Top 3 NHL points getters.

    Lang -3

    Naslund +19

    Top defenseman

    Gonchar 39 points with -23

Even the 3 players… Souray Blake Pronger… have 96 points together and only have a +12…

Are these players bad? No… and there +/- is nothing to brag about.

  24. Wills says:

    They always have Zhamnov there.

  25. Enigma says:

    unfortunately no.

  26. kovalev says:

They don’t allow Nabokov play because he was born in Kazakstan, one russian goalie that could play would be Ilya Bryzgalov he’s an Anaheim prospect

  27. kovalev says:

Ilya Bryzgalov could play goalie for Russia,

I believe Zubov didn’t play in the last tournament, I don’t think he even wants to play for russia anymore, not to sure thats what I think

    Bryzgalov – G

    Chistov – LW

    Kasparitus – D

    B. Mironov – D

    Arkhipov – LW

    V.Bure –

    Tverdosky – D

  28. turninglane says:

Nabokov is on the decline too anyway.

Andrei Medvedev, a prospect of Calgary, would stand a chance as a sencond or third stringer. He’s always played good internationally, winning a gold in the 2003 World Juniors, and if he get’s his act together will one day be a dominant starter in the NHL.

  29. Topshelf says:

Here’s what my squad would look like!!!

E.Nabokov(if the Khazakstan situation is resolved)

    World Junior Goaltender(under 22)

    A.Frolov(under 22)

    S.Chistov(under 22)

It was difficult to select this squad with other decent players who could have been added with players such as V.Kozlov,Zubrus,Afinogenov,Kvasha,Morozov,Antropov,A.Markov,Kasparaitus,Malakhov,Salei,Vishnevski and the phenom Ovechken.

The situation with Nabokov in goal all depends if they managed to get his citizenship changed because he played for Khazakstan in the World Juniors when he was junior age and that’s why he wasn’t allowed to play for Russia in the 2002 Olympics. From what I know, all that was supposed to get cleared up after the 2002 olympics.

  30. SCHLCommish says:

Ozolinsh, Skrastins and Nabokov are all ineligible. Nabokov for previous reasons and same for the other two: Ozo’s Latvian and Skrastins is Belorussian.

    My team:

    Nikki K

    S. Kozlov

    D. Markov

Yushkevich (only ‘cuz he always plays with Zhitnik)

I think they also find a way to get Ovechkin on that team somehow.

  31. JStatic87 says:

Pretty sure they would take Kaspar. He’s that guy that everyone just hates!!! That and he’s always a threat to throw that huge hit, the main thing that that D is really missing.

  32. TheLazyGent says:

    Pavel is done!!

    He cant pivot

  33. kovalev says:

Ozolinch is from Latvia and has played from Latvia already

Skrastins is from Latvia and has already played for Latvia in the last tournament

    Zhitnik is from Ukraine

Zubov will not play for Russia

    Salei is from Belarus

    Zubrus is from Lithuiana

They won’t let Nabokov play for Russia

It would be a nice team if they were able to play

  34. rojoke says:

I probably should have elaborated on it a little. What I was thinking was that because he’ll be drafted in June, he’ll be that much closer to playing in the NHL anyway. There are scouts who believe he could play now, which is one reason why Florida tried to get him with their final pick last June. As far as I know, the IIHF doesn’t have minimum age restrictions after junior. I think that a player must be at least 16 to play at the World Juniors, as Sidney Crosby was this year.

  35. rojoke says:

Medvedev? They’d have to get him away from the concessions first. The guy’s so big, he doesn’t even need equipment. Unless he’s dropped 30+ pounds, he’ll never play in North America.

  36. TC_4 says:

88 olympics in Calgary. The Soviet coach(Tikkanenov)punched him while on the bench.

  37. TC_4 says:

Who cares what other ppl think. You and me are the f’n show!!!

  38. nocuphere says:

Alexander Khavanov. Very underrated defenseman in St Lou!!

  39. SCHLCommish says:

No way do they take Kaspar or Khavanov over the top 7. Kaspar’s old and a shadow of himself and Khavanov only makes the team if Fetisov is unable to go. 😉

  40. distance7 says:

I wasn’t sure. I also just remembered that he refuses to play for anything that involves Russia, due to having no respect and alot of hatred towards his country…
