Zhamnov to become a Penguin in the offseason?
According to Mark Madden on ESPN Radio 1250 in Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Penguins could be looking to sign center Alexei Zhamnov when he becomes a free agent in the summer.
I can’t see the Penguins going after a player like Zhamnov because the fact that he is a center. If the Penguins draft Evgenii Malkin out of Russia, he is a center as well.
Also, Eddie Olczyck stated earlier this week in a press conference that Mario has given him every instinct that he will return to play next year if there is not a lockout. Therefore, Malkin will probably center Mario’s first line and chances are that there will be no need for another center with all of the young talent that the Penguins have. Although they do need as much scoring as they can get.
