Zherdev to toronto?

Spectors hockey is reporting a rumour out of Toronto, stating that NikolaI Zherdev might be headed to Toronto for Matt Stajan, and a draft pick(most likely a first rounder). Although this rumour is hard to believe it might just happen, but i think Antropov should be moved instead of Stajan because Stajan is my favourite player. Thus giving Sundin a winger to play with. Any thoughts?

Intresting trade, Id do it in a heart beat for stajan and a first rounder. But it does sound a bit bs though…Toronto would need to deal away more players to get this guy who wants to sign for (i believe) 3 million dollars. Sooo a few more players will need to be traded to free up space.

THAT WILL BE AN AWESOME TRADE WOW… YOUNG GREAT SKILLED PLAYER —> CHECK THIS OUT WOW http://youtube.com/watch?v=HvndIbU7DAk

again, Spector shot down the rumour like most people with a brain would.

Zherdev is a good player. There are too many reasons the leafs couldnt get this guy though. I love the leafs and I think stajan and a first rounder could do, and Id lvoe to see it, but Colombus might not like it, and we just don’t have the cap room.

lol it would be nice but i dont think it’ll happen just alot of ppl screwing around starting alot of rumors!!! but if soo thumbs up all the way

Although I think this trade will not happen, It would be wicked if it did. We would have a top line of Steen – Sundin – Zherdev, it would be amazing. That line would score a heck load of goals.

just so it’s clear, make sure that the JacketsGM knows this. he doesnt want to be acquiring anyways favorite player.

To the MODS around here, I hope you eventually see how down hill this site is becoming (another WowHockey).

Just an joe-shmo can write a random rumor like this.

    GROW UP

Nikolai Zherdev for Matt Stajan, Aleksander Suglobov, Andy Wozniewski & the Leafs’ first round pick of 2007.

  10. goleafsgo16 says:

Here is a strategy to acquire Zherdev, without losing Stajan.( not that it is going to happen, but just incase ). Okay so right now we have 1.741 million dollars in cap space. If we sign Stajan we would have about 1 million left. And I think Zherdev wants 3 million, so here is what it would like: Trade Antropov,Kronwall and Tellqvist, that would free us up a little over 2 million in cap space, so then we would have 3.1 million in cap space, enough to sign Zherdev.

  11. CUP_4_Sundin says:

Even if actions where taken to free up cap space for Zherdev, it would leave no cap space left in the event of an injury. If this happened, we’d be up sh*t creek without a paddle

  12. goleafsgo16 says:

we could always call up a marlie

  13. Alozo07 says:

if said trade occured it would be unbelivable to have a young rookie RUSSIAN!

  14. Alozo07 says:

are you on crack ? you just got rid of a good prospect for defence and offence

    So…

this is what the off season has come to? Recycling rumours from other sites…and not the whole one at that…as previously metnioned, you forgot the part about the rumour being shot down.

I have no doubt that the Leafs will make another move…probably to clear cap space to possibly bring in a scoring winger. Carter has been mentioned, but it’s growing less and less likely with each passing day. Here is who I figure may be trade bait:

Tucker (proboably at trade deadline): Other cup bound teams covet his style of play..that being a class A pest. He is a bonafide playoff player and would bring a respectable trade. It will be interesting to see if the Leafs extend his contract.

Antropov: Yes, I know he is the topic of every trade rumour, but he is a good depth player at the right price. He could possibly bring a thrid or fourth round pick, and would clear cap space.

Tellqvist: He’s been somewhat of a dissapointment between the pipes. He has flashes of brilliance every now and then, but Aubin has out played him and earned the back up spot. He too, could bring a third or fourth round pick, and again, clear some cap room. He’d most likely benefit from a change in venue and may flourish under a new coaching system.

Stajan: I’m convinced that the reason he has yet to be signed is that the Leafs are planning on moving him. I’m wondering if this is the way that they plan to land a scoring winger. In order to get something, you gotta give something, and he just may be it. Matt has huge potiential and in years to come, may develop into a strong forward. I see alot of Alyn McCauley in him.

    Just my two cents…

  16. thatleafsguy says:

To Toronto: Nikolai Zherdev, 4th round pick, conditional 7th round pick.

To Columbus: Matt Stajan, Aleksnader Suglobov, Mikael Tellqvist, 2nd round pick.

  17. bennyj says:

lol bit much there, stajan and first rounder should do

  18. bennyj says:

You know, I’m sick of hearing about Tellqvist. From a goaltenders standpoint, he is a good goalie. For all Leaf fans, remember the back-to-back games at the Bell Centre, where he lost both of them with like 6 goals against in each? First of all, he had no help. NO help. Second of all, he should’ve been pulled in the first game after the first period. If he is pulled, he can regain composure, instead of Quinn letting him get f*cking slaughtered, and then focus on the 2nd game of that mini-series. Also, take out those two games alltogether, and is he really that bad last season? No. When Belfour went down, he soldiered up and did his job as a backup tender and played well! I still don’t wanna trade him either, as we dont have a lot of somewhat proven goalies. If Raycroft faulters or gets hurt, Aubin’s in and Racine would be our backup? At least Telly would help out in net, even if he’s the farm goalie. All I’m saying is yeah, he kinda blew the season in Montreal, but besides those two games he was good for the Leafs. He is valuable, and besides, we won’t get much for him, maybe, MAYBE, a second rounder at most. I say keep him and use him.

Make it Stajan a 1st and a 2nd and u might be able to get Ric Nash. Ha Ha Ha. what a joke.

  20. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

if i were the GM of Columbus I wouldn’t take that deal. a 2 way center, a first round pick, and a bunch of 25 year old half baked prospects?

  21. Toonces99 says:

It would take a player like Tucker to be included in the trade, plus Stajan and a pick. Columbus would not give this guy away, the only reason l see Tucker being moved is because he will want around 2.5-3 mill per year next year. I don’t Ferguson will give that to him…If it was me, l would move those players to get a player like Zherdev…

  22. koolcracker says:

I think maybe tucker plus a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Tucker can produce, and is freat for his price. I would want to at least see if and how he would play with Peca before he got thrown away for Zherdev

  23. Peca94 says:

Matt Stajan could be on the market for all I know but both he and his agent have said that JFJ has made a qualifying offer that they will accept before the season however, they are holding out for now in an attempt to work out a long-term deal for more $. If Stajan has a break-out season which I think he will then it would be smart if JFJ would open his cheque books before the season avoiding a situation where he is deserving of a large pay increase similar to what happened in Buffalo when they could have re-signed Briere for around 2.5 – 3 in a long term deal but, decided not too and then the arbitrator awarded Danny $5 Million.

  24. Dark_Prince says:

Telqvist is a good goalie, but just there is no need for him. If Raycroft faulters, we have Aubin who can win games as proven last year. And if Raycroft gets injured, Pogge should be the back up to Aubin. I dont see a problem at all in moving Telqvist to a team needing a back-up. We would be clearing valuable cap space, and getting a draft pick or prospect in return. Maybe we can get a deal with a team like Vancouver, or Pittsburgh to send Telqvist for maybe a 3rd rounder.
