Top 25 Free Agents Left
Here are the top 25 free agents that remain. I have added my thoughts on where they might go, why, and a pure guess on how much it would take to sign these remaining players. Pickings are slim but still some decent guys left who can help.
Vincent Damphousse (COL) -Pens sign him for 900K to fill in when Mario is out and/or fill hole at centre in case Malkin cant come.
Dave Andreychuk (TB) -Returns for 1 more year with the Bolts for $1 million.
Scott Young (DAL) -Would be another worthy veteran to help mentor the Caps kids. Could go for 500K
Peter Bondra (OTT) -Thrashers need support scoring and could grab him for 3 million.
Steve Thomas (DET) -Leafs mind as well bring back Stumpy for the minimum. Need wing help and leadership.
Brian Savage (PHO) -Another stop-gap player for Washington. Team needs depth and experience. Could go for 700K
Yanic Perreault (MTL) -Sens should pick up faceoff whiz who is good for 20-25 goals. 900K would be the likely cost
Teemu Selanne (COL) -Chicago would be smart to grab him to mentor young Ruuttu. Could go for 3 million
Adam Deadmarsh (LA) -Colorado could take a chance on him. Big risk but would probably come cheap like 700K
Matt Johnson (MIN) -Wings could use more toughness with loss of Mccarty and Hatcher. Could go for 700K
Mark Messier (NYR) -Return to Edmonton not out of the question. Could make minimum being player/assistant coach
Mikael Samuelsson (FLO) -Another likely leaf for league minimum. Good depth guy with size.
Scott Stevens (NJ) -Devils or retirement. Could go for 850K which is what Chelly got in detroit.
Murray Baron (STL) -Grizzled Vet could return to Vancouver for league minimum
Jason Woolley (DET) -Could go back to where he started in Washington. They need a mentor for their kids and could go for 800K
Scott Lachance (CLB) -Another guy who should go to the Nucks. Played well with Jovo before. Could go for 650K
Bryan Marchment (TOR) -Leafs should bring veteran back. Good team guy and still intimidating. Sign for maybe the min
Todd Simpson (OTT) -Wings again after more toughness and size really need it on D. probably could be had for 500K
Jason York (NSH) -Likely return to Nashville for bargain price of 600K
Stephane Quintal (LA) -For depth purposes, he could help the Bruins. Probably would come for 600K
Brad Brown (BUF) -Islanders could use injection of size, toughness and leadership on D. Brown fits the bill for 700K
Lyle Odelein (FLO) -Habs would be smart to bring back this tough veteran. Could come for minimum.
Mike Dunham (NYR) -Calgary needs a backup and he is best guy left. 750K is a bargain for him
Felix Potvin (BOS) -Avs need experienced backup for Aebischer and the Cat could come for 600K
Byron Dafoe (ATL) -Solid veteran backup for Garon in LA. Would come for minimum. Played there once before
