Stars send Brunet to Senators

(Mar 16) TORONTO (CP) – Left-winger Benoit Brunet has been traded to the Ottawa Senators for a conditional draft pick in 2003, the Dallas Stars announced Saturday.
Brunet, 33, who was assigned to the NHL team’s minor-league affiliate in West Valley City, Utah, on Feb. 28, is to join the Senators on Sunday.
In 48 NHL games with Montreal and Dallas this season, Brunet has four goals and 11 assists. The Canadiens traded Brunet and Martin Rucinsky to the Stars last Nov. 21 for Donald Audette and Shaun Van Allen.
In 526 career NHL games in 13 years, the Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Que., native has 96 goals and 158 assists. He was in Montreal’s 1993 championship lineup.
The Stars made the announcement prior to their game against the Maple Leafs.
Preds deal Ronning to Kings

(Mar 16) -tsn.ca – TSN has learned the Nashville Predators have traded Cliff Ronning to the Los Angeles Kings Saturday.
In exchange for the 36-year-old centre, the Kings have given up defenceman Jere Karalahti and a fourth round draft pick.
Ronning has scored 18 goals and added 31 assists in 67 games this season. Last Saturday, Ronning appeared in his 1,000th NHL game which happened to be his 300th game in a Predators uniform.
Karalahti has one assist and a -5 rating in 30 games with the Kings this year.
If the Kings re-sign Ronning, who’s an unrestricted free agent this summer, the fourth round pick then becomes a third round pick.
Thrashers acquire young tough defenceman Lessard

The Atlanta Thrashers acquired defenseman Francis Lessard from the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday in exchange for defenseman David Harlock and two picks in the 2003 draft.
Lessard, 22, has six assists and 251 penalty minutes in 60 games this season for the Philadelphia Phantoms in the AHL. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound native of Montreal is the team’s career leader with 997 penalty minutes in 202 games.
Harlock, 31, has split this season between Atlanta and Chicago of the AHL. He has two goals, nine assists and 28 penalty minutes in 24 games with the Wolves and one assist and 18 penalty minutes in 19 games with Atlanta.
The Flyers also received third- and seventh-round draft picks next year.
