Aebischer Out, Belfour…Out ?

A team spokesperson said Wednesday that the situation between the Red Wings and unrestricted free agent Ed Belfour remained unchanged.
The sides have talked on and off since Monday about bringing the goalie to Detroit. Belfour’s agent, Ron Salcer, was unavailable for comment, but he has maintained since Monday that “there’s a deal to be made with the Red Wings.”
“We’re still talking and trying to find a number that makes sense for us and them,” Wings general manager Ken Holland told the Associated Press on Wednesday.
The Wings don’t want to pay Belfour, 41, and coming off back surgery, much more than $500,000 in base salary, plus incentives. Belfour might be seeking a guarantee that he will be designated the starter over Chris Osgood.
