Devils notes: Ilya Kovalchuk talk

Ilya talk

There hasn’t been much time since his trade a week ago for Ilya Kovalchuk to get settled in New Jersey, let alone think about whether he wants to make a long-term commitment to the organization and pass on becoming an unrestricted free agent July 1. His agent, Jay Grossman, would not discuss Wednesday whether he would be willing to talk contract with Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello before the regular season ends. Regardless, it appears any discussions would wait at least until after the Olympic break.

“Right now he’s concentrating on getting his feet on the ground,” Grossman said. “It’s worked out well with six games before the Olympic break for him to get acclimated. Then, he’ll play in the Olympics [for Russia], which is something he’s been looking forward to. After that, everything will take care of itself.”
