Flyers Shopping Pitkanen???

Canada.com is speculating that the Flyers are presently shopping defenseman Joni Pitkanen and as many as five teams may have some interest in the Finn.

The Edmonton Journal speculates that one of the concerns with Pitkanen is that he had one great first year backed by a year of inconsistency. Some people are wondering if Pitkanen is a great d-man or is set to become another Janne Niinimaa.

I'd trade them Ryan Malone and Sneep.

  2. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

    cough Oilers cough

  3. BruMagnus says:

    what's the purpose of this?
    how did your team do?

  4. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

um, i think Pitkanen will be traded to the oilers

  5. puckhead94 says:

As is clear to all fans with knowledge of hockey, the smartest thing that a GM can do when his team finishes 30th out of 30 is to trade away his brightest young players, especially offensive defensemen, and not have them as part of the rebuilding process. It would be beneficial to trade these young, promising stars-in-waiting to other teams and in return, take their grizzled veterans, whose best days are behind them, to provide leadership to the young players that don't have much of a future, and possibly nurture them into productive players.

In other news, the Flyers have traded their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round draft picks along with goaltending prospect Maxime Ouelett to the Washington Capitals for Adam Oates.

  6. nonhl2005 says:

What are you saying, that was a bad trade?

  7. modk09 says:

dont mind bru, hes been testy lately.

the oil wanted pitkanen last year, theyll try for him. but there are rumors phili wants MArleau, could a monster deal go down? i think pitkanen is better straight up so there would have to be picks/prospects back

  8. Gagne1286 says:

That was a bonehead trade by the Flyers, luckily none of those players drafted or the goaltender became anything in the NHL.

  9. Penssuck says:

hahahaha wasn't it like 3 1st round draft picks or something for oates?

  10. MACH9ER says:

as a devils fan i'd like to see something worked out for Gomez, hate to see him in the division but Pitkanen is certainly an above avg. Dman. My dream result would be Ohlund for Gomez, can't see Van city letting him go though.

You are such a focking loser, your such a flyers hater and its funny because you live in the philadelphia area. I think you and Fat Fock Rosie O Donnell would be a great couple because all the two of u talk is shit lol give it up brian retard                        and by the way pitkanen isnt going anywhere they are going to draft turris with the 2nd pick and sign gomez and timonen this off season

pretty sure you gotta sign gomez in order to trade him

  15. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

nah, Philly can just sign Forsberg for a center.

  16. CaptainAvery says:

I can name a lot of players besides just Pitkanen that were terrible all season last year, Hatcher, for instance, anyone willing to take a chance on Pitkanen would see he still has a lot left in the tank for years to come. If the Flyers feel they can upgrade by trading him then so be it, Philly will be back into contention come next season.

  17. nonhl2005 says:

It was a head scratcher at the time but now it looks like a wash, no harm no foul. It's just no one can honestly sit there and say now, this day, that that was a bad trade, it was a wash.

  18. KingCanada says:

Just cose the players selected didnt pan out doesnt make it even now becose different teams pick different players, im sure phily woulda picked at least 2 diff players if not 3 and it most likely would have been a diff story, i sitll think it was a horrible trade to this day.

  19. nonhl2005 says:

And with Philly's draft record thos players would have played a total of maybe 1 game in the NHL. You can't base the grade on what might have happened, only what did. They got more games played and more production from Oates then they gave up.

  20. wingsfan13 says:

adam oates was one of the most underrated players in nhl history.  his passing skill and visions is second only to gretzky.  and i hate gretzky.  he is the reason why Hull had 700 career goals

  21. adrianna_habs says:

We'll trade the rights to Souray for him.

  22. King-Luongo says:

As a Habs fan this sucks because I would really liked to have signed one of these players, even though the price was high, but on the other hand this means that Philly is probably out of the market for Briere. I predict that if Buffalo is not able to re-sign Briere he will go to Montreal.

  23. modk09 says:

briere has already publicly stated he does not want to come to montreal. as for the guys they signed, why would you want either one of them at that price? at HALF that price hartnell is overpaid. $4.5M for 40 points???????????????

  24. BruMagnus says:

    I think I misread B&W's response.

I thought he meant "cough Oilers cough" as in the Oilers were choke artists, not that that was the destination.

    My bad. Sorry B&W.

  25. BruMagnus says:

The Flyers picked up Timonen and Hartnell, and quite steep prices I might add. Timonen $6.3 million over 6 years, and Hartnell at $4.2 million over 6 years.

  26. King-Luongo says:

When did Briere ever publicly state he would not play in Montreal? I know le Journal de Montreal is biased but they have given every indication that he is interested in coming here if Buffalo doesn't step up to the plate. Hartnell is overpayed but brings more to the table than 40 points and 6 million is the price to pay for a top level d-man, for example, Markov and Souray.

  27. NEXT-HABS-SUPASTAR says:

Pitkanen would be good for a team like Calgary, Chicago, Columbus, or the Coyotes, not for Edmonton
