Hossa to the Leafs ???

Mark Goldman/Icon SMI

The Toronto Sun is reporting that the Maple Leafs are “strongly downplaying” speculation that Kaberle may be sent to the Thrashers as part of a deal for Hossa.

Marian Hossa’s contract is up at the end of the year and HTR believes that if the Thrashers are not able to get a contract done with the superstar forward that the Thrashers will likely move him before the trade deadline. It is mentioned in the article that Hossa has just recently switched agents and that Thrashers GM Don Waddell is hoping to get something done in the near future.

Leafs need Hossa if they wanna make any kinda playoff push.Kaberle is good but aint gonna push the Leafs in the playoffs like Hossa would.I think it will be Hossa for Kaberle, Steen or Stajan, and Razzor.

  2. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

yes, the NHL’s top offensive team needs an offense only player to make the playoffs…..

  3. leafsfan86 says:

neilios obviously doesnt know what hes talking about. why would the TOP SCORING TEAM NEED ANYTHING BETTER ON OFFENSE…the entire world has established that defense is the problem so stop posting shit talking about we need hossa and he will push the leafs to the playoffs

my god… Leafs fans are hillarious..

Hossa to the Leafs…………. yeah im sure thats going to happen
next it will be Forsberg to the Leafs 🙂 or what was the new one today Markov to the Leafs….. Bottom line is simple the Leafs are a major cluster ***** and not even Sidney Crosby could help that sad sack franchise.

The Leafs need to blow it up and start from scratch

  5. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

that sad sack franchise happens to lead the NHL in goals for

  6. leafy says:

Few D in this league handle the puck better than Kaberle.

As a bonus, he has the uncanny ability to gain the opponent's blue-line almost effortlessly, a crucial skill when you're down a goal late in the game.

  7. habs_punk says:

And where are they in goals against?

  8. pennell_723 says:

    this is retarted case closed

Ok, so this has nothing to do with anything, but I was in downtown Pittsburgh today to see a show and I stumbled upon none other than…yes…Vesa Toskala.  Hahahaha one of the last people I ever expected to see but it was cool to see him.

About the trade rumor.  I'm not even sure if you can call it a rumor.  Sure, speculation is fun, but this is just ridiculous.  It doesn't make any sense for either team.

Chris Benoit. What a jerk you are.

    Tasteless to the extreme.

  11. Rico71 says:

    Wow. Another mind-blowing trade fantasy.

I prefer to watch my cat barf up her food then read anything Eklund writes.

Hossa for Kaberle would be a great deal for my Habs. Hossa is invisible against the Canadiens while Kaberle hurts us every game. That trade would simply help Fergie's eventual departure.

Trade your #1 defenseman for a great REGULAR SEASON player in Hossa. He never showed up for the PLAYOFFS in his whole career….but that's ok cuz the way the Leafs are playing, they will not make the playoffs.

Oh…and trading a #1 defenseman for an UFA that is gonna sign a contract with the team that gives him the most money…great trade.

The only way they would win games with Hossa would be to score a minimum of 5 goals every game…and hope that the swiss cheese defense and goalies will manage to limit the opposition to 4 goals are less.

Their Goals Against can be cut back dramatically if they were to utilize their talent better. But seeing as both the Coach and GM do not have all the say when it comes to their jobs, they are kind of forced to do things that seem and most of the time are mind boggling. Like McCabe on the PK. They've utilized Antropov to a point where I am actually giving the guy some credit. But, seeing as from what I've seen, most of his goals are just little cheesy chip ins, I'm not giving as much respect as I would if he pulled Toews-like moves. But, hey, I am giving the guy a shit load of credit for helping Sundin carry the team to having the Most Goals For at this point in time.

    You made the comment:
Wheres the goals that count Matts?

Do you know he is probably the leader in total game winning goals since 2000?

If you are going to pass yourself off as a hockey fan, at least spell Mats Sundin's name correctly.

That circular reasoning might work on the playground at your daycare, but you're just making yourself look stupid by posting it on here.

Just having some fun. You people are high strung.  Relax.

  18. leafsreek says:

Just curious-do you honestly think that there is a team in the league that would want any of the Leafs-D? Most general managers in the league most likely have access to a TV and ars able to watch the Leaf pylons on a game by game basis.  Maybe if JFJ gets fired then re-hired somewhere else, then MLSE might find someone willing to pay these defencemen to skate around otherwise I'm afraid you're all screwed!!!

  19. leafsreek says:

I don't think Maple Leafs management is all that concerned about playoff performance-you can't choke in the playoffs if you don't make them.

  20. 24_cups_and_counting says:

THis is exactly the problem with the leafs. Steen got 45 pts his rookie year, whopidy-doo. WHat has he accomplished since then? Jack shite. You need to know when to cut your losses and stop looking at what he did 2 yrs ago. Trent hunter and Andrew Raycroft are perfect examples.

  21. mojo19 says:

"…cut your losses" ??? Steen had a so-so sophomore season, and you think they should get rid of him? I'll give you another example now, probably more accurate and relevant to this situation: Steve Sullivan. Here was a promising young guy that they gave up on and he turned into a really good player, I think Steen (22 years old right now) could turn into this calibre player.

I've never heard of anyone cutting their losses with a 22 year old, former first round pick, who's playing really well, just because he only put up 31 points in his sophomore season. Yeah that makes a lot of sense. Give your head a shake.

  22. KevinBaconFan says:

A guy who delivers the popcorn butter before the games told me that the Leafs will trade Kaberle to the Thrashers for Hossa and the antidote for Jason Blake's illness.
