ISLES' TAVARES, SABRES' MYERS NEARING MULTI-YEAR EXTENSIONS

New York Islanders forward John Tavares and Buffalo Sabres defenceman Tyler Myers are both on the verge of multi-year contract extensions with their respective teams.

While the deals have not yet been finalized, they are both believed to be in six-year range and worth an annual average of roughly $5.5 million.

Both Tavares and Myers have one year left remaining on their entry-level deals signed in 2009.

Tavares was taken by the Islanders first overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. He scored 29 goals and added 38 assists while registering a minus-16 in 2010-11. He scored 24 goals and added 34 assists as a rookie in 2009-10.

Hopefully Myers and Tavares can set the market to encourage other RFAs to sign.

Tavares has the potential to be the best bang for your buck in the league.

    Blake kessel signed with Philly

Cue the Komi for kessel trades

Alright so I guess there will be no more trades involving Tavares coming to Toronto. So I guess queue the Parise trades.

Also to whom it may concern Doughty will NOT have a leaf on his uniform. (Unless he plays for team Canada.) Honestly if he was and we had Schenn, Doughty and Phaneuf we still would fall in the playoffs, I mean Nashville had Rinne backing them and still faltered, and as much as I love Reimer he has not reached Pekka Rinne's level yet. Honestly the bigger upgrade was already mentioned above in this post Zach Parise. If its true that New Jersey is cash strapped and New Jersey is low in the standings at the open of the season then you could very well see Lu trying to acquire maximum value for his star winger. Oh also to Who  ever makes a post involving Parise heres a bit of info to remember….
    1. New Jersey has 48 contracts on their books atm (max 50.)
    2. They have $5,200,000 in cap space.
    3. IF they are cash strapped they will not want to take salary back.

Wow, I've been away from this site for a long time.

Have I really suggested the Komisarek for Kessel trade that many times?

Wow I really need to come up with something else.

Does this year really matter? We might inch into the playoff and get crushed in the first two rounds.

  7. mapleleafsfan says:

Haha you always have pretty different trades in general but you always manage to throw komi for kessel in there somewhere. Just messing with ya.

  8. JoelLeafs says:

I like your optimism: Usually teams that 'inch' into the post season don't get crushed in the first two rounds, they get crushed in the first.

    It was nice.

I know. Now that i think about it I've had either Komisarek for Kessel or Mitchell/7th For Colin Fraser in 95% of my posts in the last year and a bit.  I need to step my game up.

I took a while off too, but summers over, hockey is back. plus back to school.

True but I am tired of hearing "When did the leafs get into the playoffs last?" At this point I will consider a 4 game sweet in the 1st a moral victory.
