Koivu on the block?

During HNIC coverage on Saturday night, it was suggested that Saku Koivu may be in line for a trade.

It is extremely unlikely Bob Gainey will find any value in return for a 5 million dollar 20 goal man. Koivu and Alexi Kovalev will be UFAs after 08-09, freeing roughly $10M between the two.

Vincent Lecavalier is a UFA on July 1, 2009, leading to many to believe he may be wearing a C in Montreal for the 09-10 season.

MARK STREIT ISN'T OUR #4 DEFENCEMAN RYAN O'BYRNE 2GAMES 3POINTS+4 IS!!!STREIT IS OUR #5 SO THAT'S A GOOD NUMBERS FOR ONLY YOUR 2ND N.H.L GAMESO THE LEAFS HONESTLY B&W CAN'T MATCH OUR DEFENCE!!FOR TALENT OR DEPTH WISE !!SO THERE NOT AS GOOD AS ARE'S NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE!!!JUST LIKE OUR GOALTENDING!!WHICH IS HEAD AND SHOULDER,FAR AND AWAY BETTER!!

  3. habsgod says:

TAKE YOUR LEAF COLORED GLASSES OFF AND OPEN YOUR EYS!! DID YOU WATCH OUR LAST2 GAMES ?THE HOME LOSES AGAINST DETROIT AND CAROLINA WE WERE BOOED OFF OF THE ICE!!!AND WE DO GET BOOED OFF THE ICE LOTS WHEN TERE IS NO EFFORT AND THEY DON’T WORKHARD!!

  4. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

gee thats odd, my stat book has obryne at 2 games, 2 points (both assists) -2.

no other hab fan would put him ahead of streit.

as for goaltending, the habs are better, albiet not much better now that toskala is playing better. Toskala has 9 wins, more than any habs goaltender…. and better stats than price

and if you want to compare the two teams, fine…lets look at offense.

Habs have 5 players who have a +/- greater than 0
    Leafs have 11

Habs have 0 players with more than a point per game (playing more than 20 games)
    Leafs have 2

habs have 0 players with 30+ points
    Leafs have 2

habs have 0 players with 15+ goals
    Leafs have 2

    habs D are a combined -22
    Leafs D are a combined +15

    shall i continue????

  5. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

true, but not nearly as often. come live in Toronto for a few days, listen to the radio, read the newspaper….the media attention here is far greater than the habs.

the habs media (mostly french) goes nuts over unhockey related issues. like koivu not speaking french, and the habs desire to get a french canadian. they care more about their language than they do the game of hockey.

  6. sercote says:

When was the last time you watched a Habs'game?Don't you think Kovalev has already got is scoring touch back?

  7. habsgod says:

well i think you better open your eyes and clean out your dumbo like ears!!any other habs fan will also put o'byrne ahead of streit as well as i do !!just go ask a few of them and they'll agree that obyrne is our #4 defenceman and streit is our 5th infact alot of us hope he's either traded or not resigned at the end of the year!!!because of some of the other young guys that we have coming up!!!so your way wrong on that streit is no more than our 5th mind you that is a pretty soild top 5!!

  8. habsgod says:

true to some extent!!but lately i t seems that way!!but i think in both markets you can't please them no matter what our 2 teams do!!they could be the best teams in the league and leading the league in every statisical category and it would be good enough they'd both find something to nit pick or ***** abot!!!

  9. habsgod says:

hey b&w this is kind of off topic here but can you answer me one question!!what is the love affair that leafs fans have with wendel clark?as i habs fan i just don't see what was so special about this guy?he was an average hockey olayer!!and really didn't accomplish much in his career!so why is this guy worshipped so much?i mean if he was a superstar and a 100 point guy i could see it?i mean i laugh when a friend of mine out here in western canada that is a die hard leafs fan and talks about him and loves him like the rest of you guys do and i keep telling him what is it about you leafs fans worshipping an average or slightly above average player!!!

  10. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

An average player has a career of about 7 seasons, and scores fewer than 100 goals. wendel clark was much more than that. He was the only guy i ever knew who was under 6 feet tall, and went 1st overall. If he could convert a fraction of his heart into talent, he'd have been rivalling Gretzki. He had the heart of a warrior. He fought, scored goals, played all kinds of minutes, took all kinds of heat from other teams 6 and a half foot enforcers. He also played in an era where the Leaf teams were not very good (early in his career). so the leaf fans had precious else tp fall in love with. not unlike the habs of the last 17 years. no true talent to fall in love with.

  11. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

oh come on. BOTH markets ride the highs just as much as they ride the lows. it only seems that way because neither team is doing well now.

  12. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

i also hope striet is let go at the end of the year. that might be just enough to criple the habs PP. Anyone who calls a kid a top 4 defenseman 2 games into his NHL career is insane. O'bryne is projected by most scouts to be a 3-4 defenseman IN THE PRIME of his career. certainly not 2 games into it.

  13. habsgod says:

look dick smack!!losing streit wouldn't cripple our pp streit is just a spare part on the pp if you know anything about hockey which i seriously doubt you do!!you'd know that the 2 mains guys on our pp is markov and kovalev!!there the 2 most important elements to our pp!!our pp is #1 in the league again not because of the loss of souray!!but because of kovalev and markov!!!as for streit i think hamrlik can do the job as good if not better than streit!!!like i said obyrne is one our top 4 already!!yeah he's just 2 games into his career!like you said in your reply that he is project by scouts to a career3-4 defence!!and he is so know what you are talking about!

  14. habsgod says:

wake up!!*****head patrick roy!!in the last 17 years!!the best goaltender in n.h.l history!!!clark would have rivalled gretzkyif he would have put up numbers!!put the crack pipe down!!the only heat he took was from his buddy toller cranston when he got in the shower!!clark was tough no doubt but he was an average player with little talent but worked hard and fought probert which were good fights but he got his ass handed to him from bobby probert !like i said i think you leafs fans are a sorry bunch when you guys worship clark!!we habs fans don't worship guyus like this!!mind you we've been spoiled with the lafleur's,richard's, beliveau's the robinson's and drydens ,and roy's and of the world!!i mean we had chris nilan one of the toughest habs of all time and one of the toughest guys in the league in his era!!but we don't worship this guy,who in his day would have eaten clark for breakfast!!!and don't sit there and try and tell me that clark would've beat nilan because you are dumber and stupider than you appear!!remember nilan played in an era where some of the toughest guys in league history played!!milbury,o'connell, dave the hammer schultz and tiger williams!!and yes even probert!!

  15. habsgod says:

yes you are right!but i bet you there is no other place to play when your winning!!when both of these teams win !!you and i know that in there respective markets that if they win !there's nobody or no one that's going to get the admiration that montreal and toronto would give!!but like you and i have been saying all along!!if your not winning then we can make it diffuclt on these guys!infact maybe even to difficult!!and they almost become bums!!

  16. habsgod says:

also another thing i don't understand is the thing with clark especially when you guys had sittler!who in my mind is one of your top 3 of all-time!!he was number 2 until sundin passed him this year!!but why doesn't sittler get this adoration that clark gets!!sittler was a very good player in his day!!not as good as lafleur(he sittler)couldn't even tape lafleur's stick ………..but he is one leaf that i enjoyed watching!!but sittler doesn't get that from some of you leafs fans!and he should, he had talent and was a great player for you guys!he certainly had more talent and wasn't average or above average like clark was!!

  17. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

yeah, ok. the game in tampa obryne played just over 10 mintes. Streit, Dandenault, Hamrlik, Markov, komisarek ,brisebois all played more…

so i guess you think he's the number 4 guy, but the coach thinks he's a number 7 guy….i wonder who is right????

PP takes 5 guys, not 2. every part is just as critical. remove one peice and the whole could fall apart. you'd be surprised

  18. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

ok you're right, you had the best goalie in the league14 years ago, and traded him away….sooo its safe to say the habs have been talentless for 14 years right?????

at least the players the leaf fans worship are still alive..and still playing….

all the heart in the world wont help a 5 foot 11 guy take a 6 foot 6 guy.

you say you've been spoiled by all those players, were you born when any of them played??? probably not. face it, the habs get so bent out of shape trying to get the french canadiens that they miss any real talent.

  19. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

wow….gee i myself wonder why a guy who played in the 90's gets more attention than a guy who played in the 70's….its just mind boggling really.

to say one guy couldnt tape the others stich, when they both had 1000 points, 400 goal careeers, shows just how young you are. Its like looking back and saying Sacik couldn't tape ysermans stick. if someone said that you'd think they were crazy!!!!just how i think of you.

  20. habsgod says:

b&w are you blind!!!streit and dandeneault played forward !!obyrne played only 10 minutes as you stated but that was because of the rookie mistake he made fell down a couple of times and lokked nervous out there !!playing at home can do that to young players!!!when he fell it made him look bad because roy was left all alone in front and scored!!that was his man!!yeah and markov, komisarek and brisebois did play more but that's what the veterans are suppose to do when you have  player that gets hurt or a young guy like obyrne who made a mistake and got benched!!but for a young guy who's only going to get better he's not a bad option for us at #4 defenceman!!yeah i know that the pp is 5 guys and not 2 but as i said kovalev and markov are our key to ourpp!they make it happen out there!!

  21. habsgod says:

that's flattering that you think i'm young!!but i'm not i'm almost 40 yrs old!!but when i said that about sittler i meant it he was a good player in the 70's but lafleur was the best player in the game back then!!what i meant was that lafleur was over his career and the numbers will back that up 5 times the player sittler was!!but like i said!sittler was fun to watch on those teriible leaf teams!!back then he was the only i guess superstar you guys had then!!you mentioned the sakic yzerman thing well sakic is going to go down as a better player in his career than yzerman!not by much but he will!!

  22. habsgod says:

yeah i was born back then!!i'm almost 40 yrs old!!that was when hockey was the funnest because we were almost unbeatable back then!!we worship guys who are still alive too!!i didn't hear lafleur or robinson ,dryden beliveau or others dying they're still alive!!so think before you say that!!and we haven't been talent less kovalev is a top 5 talent in the game!!(when he decides to show up),higgins is talented, kirk muller, damphousse, koivu, mathieu schnieder, chelios, desjardins,b.smith, mats naslund, richer, souray ,price, markov, komisarek ,ryder,etc………..if that's not not talent then you tell me what is!!those are and were better players than you've had or have!!!

  23. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

both streit and dandenault didn't play forward all night, i watched the game. ok, now you're saying he's an OPTION at # 4 defenseman. whens the next hab road game???? lets see if Carbs plays Boullion 6 minutes more in that game as well???

he made rookie mistakes….i hate to break it too you, he's going to make rookie mistakes all year. young defensemen do that. thats why they usually break into the NHL several years after forwards.

heres your problem. you look at the powerplay on one end. when i played hockey, i killed penalties. all it took was one guy out of place, and the PP was done. you think hamrlik could do the job, but he never did it in Calgary?? rarely ever was he on the PP. and for all you know he could clash with markov. streit gets the job done, as did souray before him. but thats no guarantee the next guy will.

  24. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

if he was 5 times the player sitler was he would have scored a few more than 200 points more than sitler. yes, the leafs were terrible in the 70's and 80's. almost like the habs in the new century eh??? except to star like sittler.

better example, could anyone say that Sundin is 5 times the player koivu is??? of course not. but Sundin is significantly better than koivu, and Lafleur was minutely better than Sittler.

  25. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

oh, ok…i didn't realize players who played for your team less than a year counted…and players who the habs traded to other teams (which they won cups with)

kovalev top 5 talent….wow….Crosby, Ovechkin, Jagr, Brodure, Lecavalier…all more talented……not to mention at least 1 player on all 30 teams. in terms of talent he's maybve….top 100, of course in terms of value he's barely average. yeah he plays great when he feels like it, too bad he feels like it once every 5 years.

i wonder if anyone on that list is as talented as…Sundin…Francis…Leetch…Belfour…

wow, i can name 3 players on the leafs more talented than anyone thats played for the habs in the past 14 years…..as a matter of fact, take that list, and make a team. i bet the leafs pre lockout team would kick that teams asss…and thats 1 team, not 14 years worth…

Antropov has a point per game…whens the last time the habs had a point per game player????

  26. habsgod says:

B&W YOU ARE WRONG AGAIN!!I'LL CORRECT YOU ONCE AGAIN!HAMRLIK DID PLAY ON THE PP IN CALGARY WITH DION PHANEUF!!!HE HAD 38 POINTS ON CALGARY'S PP LAST SEASON!!!HE WASN'T THE PP  QB PHANEUF WAS/IS BUT HAMRLIK WAS ON THE #1 PP UNIT IN CALGARY!!AND ONCE AGAIN YOU DIDN'T WATCH THE GAME LAST NIGHT IF YOU DID YOU DIDN'T WATCH VERY MUCH BECAUSE STREIT AND DANDENEAULT PLAYED FOR WARD!! HERE'S THE LINES FROM THE GAME LAST NIGHT!!!

                       1ST LINE
                       HIGGINS  KOIVU DANDENEAULT
                2ND LINE

    KOVALEV PLEKANEC KOSTITSYN

     3RD LINE
    LATENDRESSE CHIPCHURRA RYDER
    4TH LINE
STREIT  LAPIERRE KOSTOPOLOUS!!!SO I THINK YOU BETTER SIT DOWN OPEN YOUR EYES AND CLEANOUT YOUR EARS AND LISTEN!!!

  27. habsgod says:

OK YOU MENTIONED BELFOUR !WELL HE  COULD TIE ROY'S SKATES!ROY MORE TALENTED!!! SCHNIEDER MORE TALENTED THAN LEETCH!!!KOIVU BETTER LEADER AND MORE HEART THAN FRANCIS!!DAMPHOUSSE ,MULLER ,MATS NASLUND FAR MORE TALENTED THAN MATS SUNDIN SHOULD I KEEP GOING!~!!BECAUSE I CAN!!I'LL TAKE THE 1993 CANADIENS TEAM AND PUT IT UP AGAINST ANY LEAFS TEAM PRE LOCK OR BEFORE AND THAT TEAM WOULD WIPE THE MAT WITH YOU GUYS!!ROY WOULD HAVE SCHOOLED BELFOUR!! I'LL EVEN GO SO FAR AS TO SAY KOVALEV IS TWICE THE PLAYER SUNDIN IS AND WAS!!!KOVALEV'S GOT SOMETHING THAT SUNDIN DOESN'T HIS  NAME ON LORD STANLEY'S MUG!!!LAST NIGHT ON T.S.N IF YOU WATCHED THE GAME AS YOU CLAIM THEY SAID KOVALEV HAS TOP 5 TALENT!!MACGUIRE SAID THAT!!!ASK HIM THE NEXT TIME YOU SEE HIM!!!OR LISTEN TO THE FAN590 AND HE'S ON THERE!!THE LAST POINT A GAME GUY WE HAD WAS DAMPHOUSSE!!96 POINTS ANTROPOV WILL BE LUCKY IF HE EVEN GETS 65 POINTS!!ANTROPV IS A STIFF AND IS ONLY VALUABLE IN LEAFS FANS EYES!!IF THAT'S NOT THE CASE THEN WHY COULDN'T YOU GUYS EVEN GIVE HIM AWAY FOR EVEN A PICK!!HE'S A BUM THAT'S WHY!!!

  28. habsgod says:

MINUTELY BETTER THAN SITTLER!!NOW I KNOW YOUR ON DRUGS!!!SITTLER COULDN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO LAFLUER!!

           LAFLUER 6 STRAIGHT 50+GOALS
            6 STRAIGHT 100 POINTS +
6 STANLEY CUPS 3 ART ROSS TROPHIES
CONN SMYTHE TROPHIE!!AND YOU SAY MINUTELY BETTER!!WAKE THE ***** UP!!SITTLER COULDN'T TIE LAFLUER'S SKATES ON HIS BEST DAY!!I MEAN HE HAD 10 POINTS IN ONE GAME BIG WHOOP!!AFTER THAT WHAT DID HE DO?NOTHING CHECK THE CAREER NUMBERS AND YOU'LL SEE THAT SITTLER WASN'T EVEN IN LAFLUER 'S LEAGUE!!!SO WHEN I SAY 5 TIMES THE PLAYER I MEAN 5 TIMES THE PLAYER!!DID SITTLER ACHIEVE ANY OF THE STUFF THAT LAFLEUR DID?NO!!!HE HAD 1  100 POINT SEASON NEVER SCORED 50 GOALS IN A SEASON!!!SO YES LAFLUER IS 5 TIMES THE PLAYER SITTLER WAS!!

  29. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

what i said was not untrue. striet was on the back end for the PP, and i definetly saw dandeneault on the blueline in the 2nd p[eriod. those were the general lines, but they weren't like that all game. still, even if you argue they were forwards all game, that still puts obryne 5th out of 5 defensemen in ice time. behind boillion

Calgary usually played lankow or huselius on the point on the PP, however i looked it up and hamrlik did play the PP early in his career. So for all we know hamrlik could be better than striet. but I'dtest that theory before letting him walk.

  30. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

so you're saying you'd take 1 lafleur over 5 sittlers???? and you say I'm on drugs. lafleur had a run of about 6 years…sitler was more of a consistency guy, and wasn't surrounded by talent.

but all this will become more interesting when Mats Sundin, likely next year, passes guy lafleur in career points and goals. and Mats did it in an era with far fewer goals then lafleurs era.

  31. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

Roy isnt last 14 years, Leetch was much better than schnieder WHO ALSO PLAYED FOR THE LEAFS, Francis is one of the greatest players of all time, koivu isn' worth being mentioned in the same sentense, Damphousse isn't half the player sundin is. you cant even compare.

Antropov has more points than kovalev, and i'll bet you anything he'll end the season that way. what a joke.

ok, so tell me, which one of lecavalier, Brodure, Jagr, Crosby, and Ovechkin is less talented than kovalev????
pick any of the 30 NHL teams, i'll tell you a more talented player….oh wait mcquire said it…so you dont actually think it, you just typed what he said….right….so you cant think for yourself…..you should be a sens fan….

    you want proof…

    Leetch
    Mogilney
    Niewendyke
    Murphy
    Andrechuk
    Gilmour
    Housley
    Francis

8 players with 1000+ points have played for the leafs in the last 14 years.

    habs???
    damphousee…….i think thats it…..

  32. habsgod says:

the only thing is though!!about letting streit walk we need to open up a couple of spots on our backend!!for next season and go with a couple of our kids that are ready!i.e macdonagh, valentenko and emelin!!so i could see us letting him go,on the other hand i could see us keeping him too!to help mentor macdonagh or the other kids!but anyhow b&w it's a nice situation to have when you have these options!!email jfj and tell him to pick up streitfor you guys!he'll help you guys too!a veteran with a little depth can't hurt any team!!

  33. habsgod says:

but sundin won't go down as one of the all time greats all guy is!!sundin has never won anything in his career and that's what makes you considered an all time great as unfair as it is that's just life in the n.h.l. and yes i'd take 1 lafleur over 5 sittler's infact i'd take a team of top 6 lafluers and put that up against a team of sittlers and we'd know the results!!lafluer would dominate and win more cups and poor darryl would be left standing there watching guy hand to him!!sittler was actually surrounded by talent early on!!lanny macdonald, ian turnbull, salming!!and those type of playersa but yeah he didn't have what lafluer had!!back in those days!!

  34. habsgod says:

and how many of those guys won you the cup!!i'll tell you!!

     leetch
    mogilny
    nieuwendyk
    murphy
    andreychuk
    gilmour
    housley
francis  = no cups and 40 years of futility!
    damphousse
    muller
    schnieder
    roy
    desjardin
    bellows
leclair = championship and stanley cups!!remeber this we have won 10 cups before your last one!and the way our 2 teams are going it'll be 11 before you know it!!!also why would i want to be a sens fan!they're a buch of loser too!i' don't cheer for losers!!it must really get to you leafs fan though!knowing that ottawa will do something that you guys haven't done or will do in 40+ years actually getting to the stanley cup and possibly winning it!!also it must hurt that they are the only decent team in ontario!!i talked to my friend that is a die hard passionate leafs like you and it's killing him as well!!i just laughedand reminded him that your guys favorite number should be 40+!hahaha!and i also told him saturday that we'll win on saturday against you guys!!

  35. habsgod says:

i for got to add to my last post!please don't take it personal b&w this is just good plain fun!!all this going back and forth!!your actually not that bad!!considering that that you cheer for the leafs!!oh well i guess nobody's perfect!lol!!!it's nice to see how much you care for your team just like my passion for the habs!!this bantering back and forth tells you we are true die hard fans of our teams!and not just bandwagon jumpers!!lol

  36. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

the last thing the leafs need is an offensive defenseman.

  37. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

winning is not the ultimate decider here. take guy off those teams, and they still would have won those cups. put sundin on, and they might have won more.

sundin has the NHL record for most consecutive seasons with 70+ points………14 going on 15 (greatzki had the previous record at 13). and during that run he failed to score 30 goals only twice. when it is all said and done, he could go down as the most consistent player of all time.

  38. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

no i have passion, you are a nut. you think kovalev is twice as talented as Sundin. at least i admit the leafs had no talent years ago….but you think this habs roster is talented….when they're best player is 58th in the NHL in points, and our 2nd best forward is 28th

  39. habsgod says:

well man like i said that macguire on tsn the other day said"kovalev has top 5 talent in the league!i've never heard him say that about sundin!!however he did say sundinhas never had the type of player to help him get ther however he did play with sakic early on but he was still too young so i guess he was right about that!!and i'm willing to bet that kovalev ends up with more points than antropov !!your second leading forward!!but yeah in your post i can tell your passion for the leafs eventhough some times it affects your thinking!!……….like i said i previous posts thatwhen we compared players from different era's ……such as lafluer to sittler well my friend that's where it ends there we had the best player in the game at differnt times throughout our history as where you guys have never even had one!!it's just like comparing our franchise well it ends there too because a habs fans will always say in terms of where we were are with all that we've won that the leafs will always be in our eyes a second rate team and organization!!we have that because of the 24 cups we've won!!i guess if it was the other way around you guys would think the same!!
