Sept. 1 2008- Toronto trades defencemen Bryan McCabe and Alexei Ponicarovsky to the Florida Panthers for Mike Van Ryn and David Booth.
-The Leafs pull the deal everyone expected when it comes to Van Ryn and McCabe but the Poni and Booth comes to the surprise of everyone.

Oct. 5 2008- The preseason ends with the Leafs line up looking like this-

Oct 22.- Toronto loses its first 6 games.

Nov. 16. Toronto continues to lose, but Kulemin has 8 goals already.

December 23. Vesa Toskala shines as Leafs have there first winning streak. Antropov tops Leafs scorers with 28 points, 14 goals.

Jan. 1 2009. Leafs are a solid last in the East, fighting St. Louis for last in the league.

Feb. 2 2009. Leafs still losing, but the Kelowna Rockets are tearing it up, they are favorites for the memorial cup.

Trade Deadline- Toronto trades forward Nik Antropov, to the Vancouver Canucks, currently sitting 10th in the west, for Vancouvers 2009 first round draft pick, and Patrick White.
Toronto trades Mark Bell to the Phoenix Coyotes for their 2nd rounder in 2009 and there 3rd in 2010. Bell had 15 goals and 34 points. This moves Jiri Tlusty to the top line where he and Alex Steen catch fire.

June 26- Draft Day. “With the 3rd overall selection the Toronto Maple Leafs select from the Brandon Wheat Kings Brayden Schenn.” Thats right Leaf fans Hedman is off to the Island and Tavares is the newest St. Louis Blue. Recent memorial Cup winner Luke Schenn’s little brother is the Leafs future top line center. Vancouver fell out of contention landing the Leafs the 9th overall selection as well. They use this to select Jared Cowan, once considered a top 5 pick, he had fallen because of a poor season.

July 1. Free Agent Frenzy Begins, Toronto signs defencmen Jay Bouwmeester to a whopping 7 year deal worth 7.4 million perseason.
Toronto resigns Nik Antropov to a 2 year deal with an annual salary of 2.6 million dollars.

July 15. Tomas Kaberle waives his no trade clause and is immediatly dealt to the Buffalo Sabres for there first round draft pick in 2010, Hecht and Nazim Kadri (11th overall pick in 2009).

August 15. Pavel Kubina waives hit NTC as well as one of the key factors keeping him on T.O was his buddy Tomas Kaberle. Toronto trades Pavel Kubina to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Brooks Orpik
