Magnitogorsk can not stop Malkin. Judge allowes him to play.

On Monday, the preliminary injunction filed by Metallurg Magnitogorsk to stop Evgeni Malkin from playing in the NHL, was denied in New York’s Federal Court. This case is “always about money. The only question was how much,” said Judge Loretta Preska, ruling from the bench, in denying the request from Metallurg Magnitogorsk’s lawyers.

The ruling means that Malkin will be able to continue playing the remainder of the season, which the Penguins expressed delight over in an official statement by Tom McMillan.

Going into Monday’s games, Malkin was 2nd in the Rookie scoring race with 15 points, two behind the leader Anze Kopitar (LAK), although Malkin has played in 8 less games than Kopitar. Malkin is the goal scoring leader among rookies with 9 goals, with Anaheim’s Dustin Penner and fellow Penguin Jordan Staal tied for 2nd with 6 goals each.
