Maple Leafs Predictions

Brian Burke shocked the hockey world by making a blockbuster trade 2 weeks ago by acquiring all-star D-man Dion Phaneuf from the Calgary Flames along with F, Fredrik Sjostrom, prospect D, Keith Aulie for Forwards: Nik Hagman, Matt Stajan, Jamal Mayers & D-man: Ian White.

Winners: Both- For now the Flamees won this battle because they are in need of a good playoff spot and are most likely going to make it & the Leafs are long shots. In the future the Leafs won this deal because all 3 players acquired are still young and got talent.

The same day Burke shipped slumping goaltender Vesa Toskala & veteran forward Jason Blake to the Anaheim Ducks for goaltender J-S Giguere as the Leafs were desperate for a good number one goalie.

This changed the face and attitude in the leafs dressing room & the Leafs have been better as of late. Yesterday the Leafs made another move by picking up F, Jamie Lundmark off waivers from the Flames. Theres another Flame joining the Leafs and he will bring energy and grit into the lineup.

The now Leafs go into the break leaving everybody questioning what will the Leafs & burkey do next. They have many players on the trading block right now and could see some more faces go by march. 3rd. Heres the list:
Ponikarovsky, Stempniak, Exelby, Finger, maybe Kaberle if sudden change of heart.

Here a list of teams that are interested in these players & possible trades:

Ponikarovsky- He needs to find a new home and hes a solid scoring winger and he can easily rack up a 2nd round pick & either a prospect or roster player. Teams interested: Nashville, Pittsburgh, Vancouver, Phoenix, Washington & Colorado

possible trades: To Nashville: Ponikarovsky & Exelby/Finger, To Toronto: Jonathan Blum & 2nd round pick

To Pittsburgh: Ponikarovsky & Exelby/Finger, To Toronto: Dupuis/Tangradi & a 2nd round pick

To Vancouver: Ponikarovsky & Exelby/Finger & a draft pick, To Toronto: Bernier & a 2nd or 3rd round pick

To Phoenix: Ponikarovsky, Stempniak & a draft pick, To Toronto: Mueller & a draft pick- Makes lots of sense because Mueller is one of the players at the top of the list to be traded & the Leafs are one the top teams interested.

To Washington: Ponikarovsky & Exelby/Finger, To Toronto: Fehr & a 2nd round pick

To Colorado: Ponikarovsky & Exelby/Finger, To Toronto: Svatos & a 2nd round pick – also makes sense because Svatos is also on the trade list & Leafs are one of the teams interested.

Stempniak- a good 2-way player, and crashes hard to the net & can score, and is putting up decent numbers this season with the Leafs. I only know one team interested & its Edmonton:

To Toronto: Moreau & a 2nd round pick, To Edmonton: Stempniak & a low draft pick or Exelby/Finger

-This trade makes sense because Moreau is on the block and the Leafs have shown interest.

Other possible trades:

To Chicago: Exelby
for
To Toronto: Sopel

If Kaberle has a sudden change of heart:

To Toronto: 1st round pick & Schenn/Teubert
for
To L.A.: Kaberle

To Pittsburgh: Kaberle
for
To Toronto: Staal & a 2nd round pick

To Boston: Kaberle
for
To Toronto: 1st round pick, Colborne/Hamill, & Hunwick/Stuart

To Philadelphia: Kaberle
for
To Toronto: Carter & a 1st/2nd round pick

& I heard that Florida is shopping talented forward Nathan Horton & Leafs have shown interest in the past & could make a run for him again; possible trade: To Toronto: Horton, To Florida: Ponikarovsky & a draft pick/Exelby/Finger
