My Leafs plan for next year

There was a rumor that the Leafs would trade Tucker to the Edmonton oilers for Torres and a 1st round pick. Starting with that, this is what I think the Leafs should do:

Trade Tucker for Torres and a 1st (Edmonton)
Trade Sundin, Antropov for Getzalof (Anaheim)
Trade Kubina and Suglobov for a 3rd (Rangers)
Trade Oneil and Battaglia for a 3rd (Washington)

Trade 3rd, 3rd, 3rd St.Louis (if over cap than a cheeper forward)
Trade Aubin, Stajan and a 4th, 4th Pheanix for Biron

Sign Sundin-5 mil
Sign Tucker-3.5 mil
Sign Smyth-4.5 mil

    Why not then?

  2. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

you just admitted you can't get McKee, St.Louis, Tucker, and Smyth. Without those guy's you're "Stanely cup team" becomes a "no playoff team"

  3. Sundinrocks13 says:

When did I admit that? I never said not to get those guys. The only one I moght have changed my mind about was Mckee. I said if St.Louis is to expensive, get another forward.

the problem with the leafs is that they have a lot of 3rd and 4th line guys who would be absolutely SOLID 3rd and 4th line guys on other teams (Battaglia, Westrum, Pohl, Battaglia, Devereaux, Kilger, Antropov, etc.).

Steen, Wellwood and Stajan are 2nd and 3rd line guys and potential first line candidates and Tucker, O'Neill, Peca, and Poni are 2nd and 3rd line guys as well. BUT they only have one first line guy – and thats Mats.

Nagy is someone who is a 2nd liner and potential 1st liner with a lot more offensive upside than Tucker. Acquiring him and Torres at the deadline – even at the expense of Poni and Tucker – is a move that is oriented to the present and the future and raises the stakes a little for the Leafs. they have plenty of guys who can take the place of Poni and, yes, even Tucker (although he does a lot of intangible things).

A first line of Nagy-Sundin-Wellwood though would look pretty good.

A second line that consists of the S.O.S. would provide secondary offense and a third checking line of Torres-Peca-Antropov is a good shutdown line with some offensive spark.

and the one thing that everyone forgets about Toronto's offense is that as long as they have who they have on the blueline, they will always score goals.

Ok, You can't get St.Louis and McKee and if you're not willing to pay 5 mil you won't get Smyth or Tucker. The UFA market is rough.

  6. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

Well theres no way in hell you can get t.Louis as he plays great for another team with a no trade claus so O'neill can go there.

  7. Sundinrocks13 says:

Okay, I won't get Mckee, I'll replace him with Kronwall and I'll sign Nagy in the offseason. Get Smyth for 5 mill but Tucker will still go for 3.5 mill to come back hear.

  8. Sundinrocks13 says:

I have thought about my trade ideas and I fixed them:

Trade Tucker, Kubina and Oneil for Torres, Lupul and a 1st (Edmonton)
They have veterans for run at Stanely Cup and we have Lupul and a 1st for the future of the Leafs
Trade Sundin, Stajan and 3rd (07-08) for Getzalof (Anaheim)
They will have a more likely chance of winning the Stanely Cup with Sundin and the 3rd and Stajan replaces Getzlof's potential

Trade Aubin, Antropov and a 4th, 4th Pheonix to Buffalo for Biron
Not worth having a main goalie as a backup for Miller in Buffalo

Resign all the players on the Roster below who need to be Resigned

Their offense is solid through to the 4th line. Leafs would have a real good chance to run at the Stanely Cup because their offense would be awesome with Sundin centering to scoring wingers (Smyth and Getzalof) who could easily get atleast 25 goals along with Sundin. Wellwood would have Poni on his wing who has an amazing shot and Steen who could get atleast 18 g along with Poni. Tucker's grit playing with Peca's defensive ability with Lupul learning of of Peca. 4th line of Kilger and Torres who can check and have a scoring ability along with Pohl's it would be a good 4th line with each player getting about 5-15 goals. Getzaof, Poni, Lupul Wellwood, Steen and Pohl being more experienced in the NHL, they will be more efective in the league and be prepaired for the future.

With Kaberle and McCabe being more experienced (with McCabe practicing controlling the puck and taking less dumb penalties) They will do good on the powerplay and penalty kill and even strength being experienced defensmen. Colaiacovo being a checker and a goal scorer and Kronwall being a defensive defensman, this line should have good chemistry. White and Gill hace already shown they can play well together. Also White and Colaiacovo will be more experienced so they will not make any rookie mistakes.

With having both Biron and Raycroft are goaltending won't be so bad. With Biron being #1 or they both bring even they could take turns doing the games like (Raycroft, Biron, Raycroft and each of them playing about 41 games if their won't be any injuries at the goaltender position).

  9. BLUE_AND_WHITE says:

much better. sundin has a team option that Anahiem might hang on to.

  10. Sundinrocks13 says:

They have to reisign Teemu Selanne and Sundin will say he wants to come back hear. Should I make a new thread about it though?

  11. Sundinrocks13 says:

If you don't like my idea then don't commment on it like that. Besides it's a good idea anf if you think that, then you're talking about yourself.

  12. 92-93 says:

i think there is too much salary going one way (to Edmonton) – like 8.1 milllion, who have a cap ceiling below the regular cap limit. someone big would have to come back the other way (not just cheap young players).

in contrast, TOO MUCH is going to Anaheim with just Getzlaf coming back the other way. maybe take Stajan out, replace him with Suglobov, and have a 2nd rounder come back to the Leafs?

i dunno about the trade but i do think Biron coming to Toronto is a good idea. i know a lot of people would be like – 'but youre paying Biron over 2 million to be a back-up or over 4 million to Raycroft and Biron to be a tandem.'

my response would be: so what? you look around the league at the solid tandems out there, sure they are cheaper but they make the teams better. I would love to see someone compete for the #1 job in Toronto with Raycroft and i wouldnt mind spending good money for good goaltending (versus good money for mediocre defensive D).

  13. Sundinrocks13 says:

Edmonton did trade away Pronger right? Who like atleast 6 mill. Every sais I give to little and you say I give to much? I think Biron and Raycroft will good with half a season each.
