Peca’s injury is probably pretty serious then. I’m surprised though that they would go this route. I thought Stastny played really really well with Laraque and Harvey on Friday. But I think this really points out how displeased MacT is with his fourth line…just looking for some regular grit.

  2. JannettyTheRocker says:

Today MacT has Rem Murray centering Stastny and Laraque………I think Murray was just signed as an extra body due to injury. He’s good defensively and plays solid offense, and he knows the Oiler’s system, so I think he’ll fit in just fine.

  3. SJ_Sharks_Fan_19 says:

wont help them they will still suck

  4. gohabs73 says:

i don’t think he’s gonna have much impact on the ice,

but he might bring some leadership and motivation to the team.

good to see him back in the NHL.

  5. thegoalie1976 says:

I wonder if you caught the last game between SJ and Edm with a comment like that. Sharks fans have fun looking at the Oilers backsides for the rest of the season.

  6. oildude says:

This could mean a big trade is coming and some forwards will be involved. Maybe Luongo

  7. blindref says:

As much as I’d like to see Luongo with an oil drop on his chest…it’s not going to happen. Florida will be asking more than Edmonton is willing to give I think. Lowe is probably only looking for a quick fix for a goalie anyway (ie. Cujo).

  8. trailerparkboys says:

Why would the oilers look for tempary help in goal with such a young team? Shremp and a first rounder would be enough to secure louongo. If Lowe Cant get a young goalie by the deadline then go after Cugo.

This team is built for now and for later .

If lou is avalible Lowe should do anything to get him.

    Bubbles out……

  9. wingerxxx says:

Good old Rem. I liked him when he was a Ranger. He’s a good defensive player, but not a difference maker of any kind, and offensively, he’s never been that great. A good depth guy, and he can play multiple positions.

  10. Bergeron47 says:

good to see Murray as an oiler again, didn’t get much ice time today against NSH. Well he is on the fourth line, i guess i just didn’t notice him.

  11. dave1979 says:

wow. what a blockbuster deal. and an in depth article to boot. hahahaha jannetty you skid! the oilers are a bunch of plumbers!

  12. FLAMESOWNU says:

“This news was worthy of it’s own thread??? ok….”

  13. thegoalie1976 says:

    I agree.

I would like to see somebody younger (Biron / Raycroft).

If that is not a trade that is achievable then go after Cujo or Belfour as plan B.

  14. thegoalie1976 says:

Does anybody else think Conklin is being showcased for a trade??

I can’t see Mactavish starting him 2 in a row out of the kindness of his heart.

The best thing for the oilers and conklin would be for him to play well (which he has) and make himself part of a deadline trade.

He very well could pick up his game somewhere else.

  15. mmatras says:

For starters, because unlike 99% of the crap that people post on this site, this thread’s scope discusses something that is true, actually happened and not just out of Leafy’s dream world!

This is a sign that a big deal involving forward is coming. If I was Lowe, if I was let go some forward, it will be Peca and Laraque. But don’t forget that Edmonton have too much forward since the trades for Tarnstrom and Spacek. So Staios, Ulanov and maybe their capitain Smith will be a good exchange value for a goalie and a second line forward.

    To Phoenix:

    Matt Green

    Brad Winchester or

    3th round pick

    To Edmonton:

    Curtis Joseph

    To Montreal:

    George Laraque

    Steve Staois

    To Edmonton:

    Richard Zednik

    3th roud pick

  17. thegoalie1976 says:

    Not that unlikely, but….

Cujo will only cost one of the prospects you listed, not both, unless phoenix sends somebody else our way. Cujo is just a rental after all.

    and….

I think staios straight up for zednik would be enough to get him over to edmonton. Laraque for a 3rd rounder would just be a salary dump, which would be ok if edmonton had a higher salary goalie like biron.

This seems good for the two team because Cujo is the experience goalie that the Oilers want and Green and Winchester are good prospect.

    To Montreal:

    George Laraque

    Steve Staois

    To Edmonton:

    Richard Zednik

    3th round pick

Richard Zednik is exactly the type of player for the Oilers playing style and Montreal want Laraque and need backup at the defense.

Gave comments about what you think of those trades… thanks!

  19. diehardoilersfan says:

too much for cujo, people really under estimate greenes potential he can really throw the body and is very smart in his own end and for a rookie has been extremely steady. I would probably consider him untouchable also just because hes so young and his potential upside. But crazier things have happend. the zednik trade is pretty accurate i think though but laraque is a key fourth liner on the oil and staios although is like a rock on D is in the middle pronger, spacek, bergeron, smith, greene and tarnstrom.

  20. gohabs73 says:

From a Habs perspective, i’d trade Zednik straight up for Staios.

It would be a win-win trade: Habs need a reliable defenseman and the Oils could use a shooting winger.

However, this would mean more trades for the Habs since we would have 8 D-men (including Streit).

  21. FLAMESOWNU says:

lol jannetty said this about an earlier post so i thought id say it about his =)

  22. JannettyTheRocker says:

I wanted to keep the article short and sweet, and I tryed to use a lot of small words so that you could read and understand it in less than two hours…….let me know when you finish reading this post.

I would agree that sending Greene to Pheonix would be a bit much, but remember — the Oilers need to outbid the LA Kings and Vancouver Canucks to get him. Not to mention the fact that Pheonix thinks they still have a shot at the playoffs (they don’t).

The Oilers have an incredible forward prospect pool. Players like Yan Stastny and JF Jacques aren’t going to get a real chance with the Oil, and some pretty great looking future NHL stars like Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Robbie Shremp might not have a place in Edmonton depth-chart, despite the fact that they’ll both deserve it really soon.

    MY TRADE PROPSALS:

    To Pheonix:

    D Igor Ulanov

    (P)F Marc-Antoine Pouliot

    Low Draft-Pick

    To Edmonton:

    G Curtis Joseph

    F Geoff Sanderson

    To New York Islanders:

    (P)F Yan Stastny

    2006 Fourth Round Pick

    To Edmonton:

    F Mark Parrish

    OR

    To Montreal:

    (P)F JF Jacques

    To Edmonton:

    F Richard Zednik

Also, remember that Rem Murray is coming back from a severe disorder. It’s a real good story for a great guy, and good depth player.

  24. gohabs73 says:

Habs won’t trade Zednik for prospects.

He is one of our only trade baits to assess our immediate needs: a tough 2nd or 3rd line forward and a puck moving defenseman.

I’m sure Jacques would find takers though…

most likely amongst teams that are already out of the playoff race.

    Your first suggestion seems reasonable…

However, the apparent bidding war for Cujo might raise the stakes over his real value.

Also, Sanderson, Cujo and Parrish are all free agents.

It looks like the Oilers would give up a lot of youth for playoff rentals.

  25. wayne2 says:

Montreal would win that deal,Zednik is the kind of player that plays one game out of three.

  26. Stuv_Dogg says:

So, if I opened a thread titled, “The Leafs had a practice this morning”, it would be OK?

Let’s see, it is true, so it must be OK. I’ll get right on that.

  27. letsgooilers says:

Well, MacT is looking for somebody to get hot, which is why he’s been rotating. However, that being said, it wouldn’t be crazy to suggest that they may be trying to showcase him.

  28. coach_bombay says:

    “Leafs had practice this morning”.

They way have been playing, that would probably be another garbage post.

  29. coach_bombay says:

    To EDM:

    Zednick

    Bouillon

    TO MTL:

    Bergeron

    Torres

    Sounds better!

  30. Panks says:

If the Oil actually go for Cujo or Belfour, they still won’t go past the 2nd round, why? They’re too old! We need a Biron or Luongo (we should keep dreaming) However, someone correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t Peca’s contract done at the end of this year?? Let’s dump his no-good-for-nothing salary now. Maybe Lowe is waiting for Peca to get off the IR list so he can make a blockbuster trade. All I know is we still need a goalie for the next 3-4 years and neither Cujo or Belfour are worth it.

    Hell, even Giguere would work.

Time for Lowe to be agressive for a change instead of waiting until it’s too late, like always.

  31. Panks says:

BTW does anyone know of a site where a guy can view player contracts??

  32. JannettyTheRocker says:

I’m pretty sure you can find player contract info on http://www.nhlpa.com

  33. Bergeron47 says:

we would never trade either of them.

Torres is having a career year and is second in goals on the Oilers.

Bergeron is on pace for 20 goals this year, he would be the first defencemen since Paul Coffey on the Oilers to do so.

and Lowe knows that if he trades bergeron

    he better hide his children

  34. Panks says:

Nope, stipulates how much, but not how long.
