Ozolinsh a Hab?

Team 990 reports that Montreal Canadiens might be looking to get a hand on Sandis Ozolinsh of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Could be logic, Souray is out with injury, Markov is suspended, and Komisarek is out for family problems, and now Ron Hainsey is gone to Columbus.

Is this serious? Do mean “reports”, or “speculates”?

  2. mojo19 says:

smart offensive player, montreal would love him.

  3. Lint07 says:

I’d like to get Ozolinsh with the Habs.

Very good offensively, he could quaterback the PP. But the greatest thing, he really did surprise me with his excellent defensive play the year Anaheim made their playoff push.

He could really give a boost to our PP that’s been dreadful to say the least since the start of the year.

  4. Mikeyribs says:

On with side does Ozolinsh play?

Ozolinsh for a second round choice, maybe add in a fifth rounder if Anaheim DG feels greedy.

  5. sakic_habs says:

Habs best move would be to add a verteran defensemen in Ozolinsh. Its always good to add depth in the defense position especially with 3 major members missing.

Ozolinsh is not a bad acquisition even thou habs were supposed to get a guy like Hannan or Zidlicky.

  6. zyphrit says:

Why not, due to the situation of the habs now everything can be realist…

  7. SoBaZzZz says:

I heard Ozolinsh is injured, so that would be too awkward. Anyone can clear me up on that?

  8. SoBaZzZz says:

When talking about rumors, there actually is a very thin line between the two. So yeah, I see it more as a rumor than any of them. But genrally speaking it is a speculation. Haven’t heard any more details than that.

  9. Lint07 says:

Ozolinsh recently came back from his injury.

Trade rumors started when he’s been an healthy scratch earlier this week.

  10. morrissey says:

One of the more plausible rumours these days. Anaheim looks like they are dumping players and Habs D not great at the best of times is totally decimated right now.

  11. robinson19 says:

To me if they let this one get away that’s really dissapointing.

Souray may be day to day with a minor groin pull, but he’s gauranteed to aggravate it off and on all season because he’s a bit too slow and a bit too old for the new style of play.

Komisarek will be back soon which is huge, but Markov will be sorely missed for the next two games.

Seeing as Anaheim would probably do it for a draft pick, or maybe for a sketchy prospect like Andrei Kostytsin, I say do it.

  12. rojoke says:

You don’t make a trade of this importance simply because one guy, a major guy, gets a short suspension and another younger guy is dealing with a family emergency.

Having said that, with Souray injured, combined with his offensive struggles, it would be a good addition to the team, and possibly a way to generate more offense from the blueline. Aside from Andrei Markov, Habs defenders are not exactly an intimidating factor at even strength. I don’t know if I could give up on Andrei Kostitsyn for him though. I know the forward depth for Montreal is there, but Ozolinsh is still only a band-aid on a deeper problem.

  13. BrokenSocialScene says:

Since when did Kostytsin become a “sketchy prospect”?

  14. distance7 says:

Since when was Zidlicky available at all? Oh, that’s right, he’s not.

  15. robinson19 says:

You can find a story on him on RDS.ca, if you read french. Basically he’s not playing hard, he’s coasting, and he’s really dissapointed the organization. Their plans have alot more to do with some of the other prospects now.

  16. robinson19 says:

I agree the Markov and Komisarek situations don’t necesitate a trade on their own, but a guy like Ozolinsh could provide some of the numbers Souray’s not putting up, while at the same time taking pressure off the Habs to rush the developement of Streit when he’s obviously adjusting very gradually.

the deal for ozolinsh would be a smart one because you canot rely on mark streit that much and souray looks as if he wants out because of his wife wanting him to move to california to see his daughter so ozolinsh would be a perfect fit for the Habs and would help a guy like Bouillon get those numbers and high production

  19. SoBaZzZz says:

According to various reports, Canadiens GM Bob Gainey is frequently staying on top of the waiver wire.

While the team may be looking for defensive depth, the Habs are supposedly interested in bolstering their offensive game.

Montreal is currently 28th in the league in goal scoring. I think it speaks for itself.

Missing Kovy like a Souray slapshot misses the net.

Komisarek’s mother has passed away. (RDS) My deepest condolences to him and his family. She was only 48 yrs old. She had cancer.

  22. mikeribeiro says:

Montreal salary cap is at 36 millions. Gainey wont make a move until deadline to go for a scorer to get to 39 millions for the playoffs.

although i prefer to watch the habs on rds then any english station, since most of the english announcers are garbage, i always laugh at al the crap that rds puts out! gainey better not give up on him that quick!

  26. rojoke says:

You mean his soon-to-be ex-wife? Ain’t gonna happen.

  27. BrokenSocialScene says:

Wow, that’s really to bad if that’s the case. I had really high hopes for the kid.

Hopefully someone gives him a wake up call and he snaps out of it.

  28. MTLROCKS says:

Montreal has a shit team. There 2nd line is horrible. Teams that win Stanley Cups have solid 2nd lines like tampa when they had Richards and Modin on their 2nd line during their stanley cup victory. Ribiero and Ryder suck like crazy and won’t let the Habs get anywhere. I think the Canadiens should trade, Ryder, Ribiero, Zednik, maybe Bonk, Souray, and Komisarek. They should trade Komisarek and Zednik for Sykora and Ozolinsh. Then they should get rid of Ribeiro and Souray for Jokinen and a draft choice. After that, they should deal Michael Ryder and a high draft pick( 2nd or third round pick) to Ottawa for Martin Havlat.

The habs could then trim some payroll or keep their lineup as it is since they would stand just at the cap.

    Bonk Koivu Kovalev Ozolinsh Markov

    Sykora Jokinen Havlat Bouillon Rivet

That would be an awesome first two lineups and the habs would no longer have any problems scoring goals.
