Penguins possible buyers by trade deadline

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the Penguins may become buyers this year. Some of the names mentioned include Aaron Miller, Jassen Cullimore, Sheldon Souray, and Yanic Perrault. Other names such as Keith Tkachuk or Bill Guerin may be too pricey.

No chance Yanic Perreault will be acquired, at least not for cheap. It’s really angered me as back-to-back seasons he was just dangling there for the taking but the Penguins never signed him. The best faceoff man in the league would have been an excellent addition. Whether the Canadiens would trade within the Conference is unknown, but having Souray or even Markov would be an amazing pickup.

There has been lots of talk of trading Malone during his brief NHL career. The bottom line is right now he is not a top line winger, and is only successful due to playing with Crosby. It may be time to shop him in exchange for a real top line winger. The LA Kings may be the place to look for both defensemen (Miller) and forwarads, although I doubt they would part with Frolov or Cammalleri (who can play wing) for even a hefty price of Malone + 1st rounder. Memories of Alex Stojanov for Markus Naslund suggest it may be wise to keep Malone at least another season.
