Former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Jonas Gustavsson has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings worth a total of $3 million.

Gustavsson’s rights were traded to the Winnipeg Jets for a conditional seventh-round draft pick earlier in the off-season.

The 27-year-old Gustavsson signed with the Maple Leafs from Sweden in 2009 and spent the past three seasons in Toronto. He was 17-17-4 last season with a 2.92 goals against average and .902 save percentage. Gustavsson, nicknamed the Monster, also had four shutouts.

The Red Wings have also made a $90 million offer to Suter on a 13 year contract (cap hit $6.9 mil). That would be a huge addition. Here’s what their team would be with Suter:

    Filpulla – Datsyuk – Franzen
    Cleary – Zetterberg – Samuelsson
    Bertuzzi – Helm – Eaves
    Miller – Abdelkader – Tootoo

    Suter – Kronwall
    Quincey – White
    Kindl – Ericsson

    Howard
    Gustavsson

Not bad, they actually really need Suter to be a contender again, I believe. I don’t know if they’ll really be the same without Stuart and Lidstrom back there, and they’re missing that secondary presence that Rafalski brought, and Schneider before him.
