Report: Alexei Yashin eyes NHL return
Russian centre Alexei Yashin is considering a return to the National Hockey League with the New York Islanders according to a report by Canadian sports broadcaster TSN.
The Islanders confirmed on Friday that Yashin and his agent Mark Gandler have been in discussions with the NHL club and may make his return from the KHL this season.Yashin has played the last four seasons with Yaroslavl Lokomotiv and St. Petersburg SKA of the Kontinental Hockey League. SKA refused to renew Yashin’s contract earlier this month.
Yashin scored 15 goals in 52 games with SKA last season.
In June 2007 the Islanders purchased the final year of Yashin’s 10-year, $87.5-million contract, after seven years and his now infamous contract disputes while in Ottawa.
His possible return to the NHL comes just weeks after Jaromir Jagr announced he would make his return to the Philadelphia Flyers.
