Stajan or Antropov could go

According to Spector’s trade rumors, and “Leafs Lunch” JFJ is attempting to clear some cap space, with the most likely candidates being Antropov or Stajan.

The specific rumor was Antropov to Detroit but no word on what they’d get in return. (either picks or prospects).

It’s hard to tell how realistic this is, with neither of these players exactly highly profile forwards, though both have their own upsides. Antropov COULD perform better with a change of scenery, coaching, new linemates…. while Stajan is a fairly decent two-way player for his price, and is more expendable with the arrival of peca.

This could be an effort to make room for Carter, or just a move by JFJ to leave himself some cap room for the season.

Why trade Stajan? He is a good 2-way forward and with Peca on the team to mentor him, he is bound to become even better. Keep him around, he’s got a lot of heart and that’s something that’s hard to find these days

i dont want stajan to go. but if its the best for the team then do it. but i can see this turning into another brad boyes trade!!

i think trading stajan at this point would be foolish if given the chance i think he can do realy well and i think under the leafs new coach stajan will get more opportunity and will do realy well, even atripov as much as he is criticized he can put up #’s and again under a new coach with a new style id like to see them keep him and give him another chance and if by the trade deadline he is no better then maybe make a move

I wouldn’t mind saying bye to Antropov, but not Stajan. If we got a decent return for Stajan, then sure, let him go. But, I am not willing to let go of Stajan for a lousy pick.

I’d rather have Stajan than Carter.

So would I, especially at the respective prices. In fact, I would not trade Stajan staright-up for Carter at any price. I liked what Stajan showed in the last part of last season… I get the feeling he would be a solid 2-way center if finally given the chance to play a regular shift.

Stajan needs to stay. I’ll be very surprised if he doesn’t stay.

The Stajan rumours keep popping up…first for Pronger.. now to make room for Carter…

What does this boy have to do to gain respect…

He is a quality team player with loads of upside… and a small wage…

I think JFJ lowballs some players.. over spends on others…

I think the contract negotiations… might get this boy sent out of town… so we can watch him put up some great numbers (like Boyes) with a team that gives him 15 mins a game instead of last yrs 7 mins…

Antropov should be the one to go no questions. Stajan is just beginning to show what he can do, Antropov had his chance. He’s dead weight and a big choke.

JFJ would be a laughing stock if he traded Stajan for a draft pick to make “cap room”. If this trade is made it’ll have to go down on the huge list of terribe Leaf player moves. Jason Smith, Steve Sullivan, Brad Boyes, Alyn McCauley, Kevyn Adams, trading a 1st rounder for Tom Kurvers and the 1st rounder turning out to be Scott Neidermayer, etc etc. Out of all those players the Leafs have a big fat nothing to show for it. Stajan will thrive under Maurice and Peca will be a perfect role model.
