The Ducks are flying high.
After finishing 6th in the Western conference with 98 points and going to the conference finals, the Ducks were looking good with a core of young players’ mixed with some veterans. They were a good team and they improved by adding superstar Chris Pronger.
How many teams can say they have 2 defenseman capable of winning the Norris Trophy? Not many, if any… Beauchemin is good as a 3rd defenseman and he was great during the playoffs.
On offense they lost Lupul and even thought he was great on offense, he was minus 13 last year so the loss isn’t that bad. They have Selanne and McDonald as offensive leaders. Getting Chistov back will help. Corey Perry is good for 40-50 points; Kunitz is good for 50-60 points, that said they seem to have a great team.
In goals they have Bryzgalov who played surprisingly well during the playoffs as he replaced a struggling Giguere, if that wasn’t a fluke then they can trade Giguere for a skilled player or some depth. So was it a fluke? Well only time will tell…
That 1-2 punch of Niedermayer and Pronger is amazing; the ducks are looking like one of the best teams in the league!
