Thrashers Clinch Playoff Berth And DIVISION TITLE!

Thrashers defeated the Hurricanes 4-1 to clinch the playoff berth with help from Florida defeating Tampa Bay 7-2 on Friday Night!

Atlanta Thrashers came into the season with one thing in their heads, and that was to make the playoffs. They accomplished that, and then proceeded with winning their first division title.

Atlanta defeated Carolina on Friday Night 4-1. Kovalchuk, Hossa, Dupuis, and Belanger scored, as Hedburg stopped 32 of 33 shots. Florida blew out Tampa Bay 7-2 to secure the division title for Atlanta with both teams having a game left.

It’s been a weird year for Atlanta. I thought after last year they would of did the same, but things changed. Hossa emerged as the team’s stat leader, and the heart and soul of the team. A great all around player really showed everyone what he could do. He won’t win the Hart tophy, but in Atlanta’s perspective, he’s the winner for their team, definately. Ilya Kovalchuk seemed after a 98 point season last year was going to tear it up, but didn’t. He’s at 75 points, with 41 goals, which is lower than usual, but still good stats still. He’s emerged as someone who wants to win, make the playoffs, and wants to mature. It’s an off year if you look stats wise, but I think it’ll pay off in the end. Kozlov also emerged as the team’s silent weapon. His great passing ability ahs helped the team, and not to mention his not too shabby of a goal scoring talent he’s got on him.

This team was headed no where before the Trade Deadline though. Acquired Dupuis, Zhitnik, and Tkachuk. They paid a lot for these players, but it seems like their goal of making the playoffs is what they would be willing to sacrifice some of their future for, and therefore did it.

And now, their headed towards their journey to the Stanley Cup!

I’ll close by saying, I’m glad Atlanta’s made the playoffs, and wish them the best of luck.

GO THRASHERS!
