this guy is a defensive specialist, which is what atlanta could use. good acquisition by don waddel

No shocker there… Burke is continuing to tinker with this team, and has had some pleasant surprises in Sammy Pahlsson and Francois Beauchemin. Good cheap forwards and defence make veterans expendable.

    Great signing for the Thrash.

Prolly the best pick up thrashers could have made. They sign Hedberg a great backup goalie, possibly could make a push for starting position, resign Havelid, and still have a few good Deffensemen in deVries and Sutton. The team is looking good for a playoff push.

Its plan to see that the thrashers can score with Hossa, Kovalchuk. A decent second line with most likely Kozlov, Holik, Mellanby. I really do like there chance’s as they are also stacked in the center position with Rucchin, Krog, Kapanen, Holik, Metropolit, and Mackenzie I think? With Metropolit and Mackenzie and Krog most likely fighting for that fourth line spot.

Hopefully Lehtonen can stay healthy for “most” of the season, if thats the case I’d give the thrashers a punchers chance at a playoff push.

Good job Waddell Small price to pay for a solid defenseman I fully agree great trade for the Thrashers

    I think that’s a high price to pay for a 4-5 defenceman

Vishnevski has to be a top 4 guy in Atlanta. I’d have loved to deal for him in Buffalo, but we have our own cap issues to deal with. Looks like the Thrash could fight for a playoff spot.

  8. celph9 says:

    he’s better than a 4-5 defenceman…he’s physical, blocks a ton of shots…

another player just like vishnevski who can score a bit more and i will consider the thrashers serious contenders.

Good move for Atlanta…..but don’t forget about Burke. He’s filling in the prospects he gave up for Pronger. One of the smartest GMs (and sassiest/sarcasstic….remember the bertuzzi and sedi speech :)) in the league!

  12. SabresFan220 says:

Yeah the Bertuzzi/Sedin speech was priceless.

“I just want to let everyone know that Todd Bertuzzi does not play for the Detroit Redwings, he’s a Vancouver Canuck. The Redwings jerseys on Todd’s shoulders have Redwings in them, and Sedin does not mean punch me in the head.”

Not really. Stewart is an injury call-up at best, little or no impact at the NHL level. The conditional pick likely has something to do with whether Atlanta re-signs Vishnevski, in any case it will be a lower round pick.

The 2nd rounder is the only item really in play here. And for a good, fairly cheap defensive Dman that Atlanta needs; not too bad of a cost.

Both teams got what they wanted, and both at a pretty good price.
