    Comments back, sweet thanks.

Kessel + Reimer for Carolina’s 1st (Marner) + Skinner + Ward (cap dump)

Then flip Skinner for 2016 1st somewhere

Nashville’s 1st + Dion for CBJ, Philly, SJ or Avalanche’s first

Bernier to Edmonton for 2016 1st

JVR to NJ for 1st round pick

Leafs draft 4, 5, 6 get Marner, Provorov, Hanifin, cupboards full, three first for next season tank for a couple seasons while developing to ensure find that big piece to build around (like a MacKinnon).

Showcase Lupul with 1st line minutes all next season.

Ok, I am going to respond to these in order.

      1) MAKE A NEW POST AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK! Seriously there is no reason to make it so no one can comment on anything. If it is coming to that just make a post that says “Open Discussion”. Thank you, we missed the comments section.

      2) I like that Carolina trade. It is the perfect deal for both teams. Leafs get a great young piece (2 of Hanifin, Strome, Marner with 4+5 picks). Carolina gets a top winger for Staal and a cheaper goalie with similar value right now. They dump Ward’s contract too. I wouldn’t flip Skinner though, at least not for a 2016 1st, maybe use him as a pot sweetener for a truly nice asset.

      3) solid value for the teams that could use an upgrade on defence but the Leafs would have to take on a cap dump at which point I would want a 2nd as well.

      4) Edmonton won’t do it. Unless they fill each hole they have on their roster (except goalie) they won’t move the 2016 1st for anything.

      5) JVR deal I would rather more but NJ wouldn’t give up more so I’d rather keep JVR.

Although if we pulled off getting the 4th, 5th, and 6th picks I would so offer them for McDavid. Hell throw in all 2015 picks for McDavid lol.

    Great that comments are back.

Told you that Minnesota is trouble from way back in January. Watch out for the Wild.

I also said Montreal is not as good as last year, which we saw hints of in the 1st round.

However, I was wrong about Anaheim and Calgary. They both look pretty good.

  3. nordiques100 says:

I think the Bruins will still fire Julien

I think the Blues will fire Hitchcock

The Oilers are almost certain to let Todd Nelson go for someone likely more established.

We know of the Sharks vacancy and of course Toronto.

Detroit may need a coach too as Babcock may decide not to return.

And New Jersey will need a coach too. Same for Buffalo.

On top of Philadelphia all these vacancies. Thats 9. That is insane for one summer.

Looking for jobs may be Babcock, certainly McLellan, Bylsma, Carlyle, DeBoer, Eakins and others. I think the first domino will be Babcock and then everyone else will start picking off the other openings.

There is a lot of intrigue off the ice as there is on it.

  4. LN91 says:

I know Philly really wants Hanifin…As they really need a good D-Man to contend.

I would be open to swapping with Philly, but they would need to blow the Leafs socks off in a deal.

    • leafmeister says:

What kind of return would you want? They’d have to start with Tampa’s 1st.

There is a perceived drop off after 5, but if the scouts believe that to be overstated I wouldn’t be against moving down.

  5. nordiques100 says:

I think the Leafs cannot pass on getting one of Strome or Marner. Or even Hanifin.

I think you rather have the best player in a draft like this where there is such positive feedback for all the high end prospects.

Its not a down year, there is indeed a lot of players available as they say, but quantity doesnt always amount to quality.

I think having not selected in the top 4 since 1989, i think they need to get one of those guys who many believe will be good to great players.

I think for the Leafs, trading out of the top 5 or top 10 would be a big mistake.

    • leafy says:

I’d be shocked if the Leafs traded their pick. But then again, this is the Leafs.

    • doorman says:

I would trade the 4th to Philly for the 7th and as of now 26th picks. I feel we would be able to land Barzal at 7 and I personally don’t think the drop off been him and Strome/Marner is as big as some. Philly if they are that desperate for Hannifin and he is there might alsoget the 55th or a 2nd next year. I would also do the 4th to Clb f0r the 8, 34&38th picks or to N for the 6,36th & 41st pick, but that is just me.

      • Steven_Leafs0 says:

I wouldn’t trade a top 5 pick for a top 10 pick and a pair of 2nds alone. If we got a great young asset with that package then I would be more interested. Strome/Hanifin for Barzal/Provorov and two top 10 2nd round picks.

        But that is just me.

  6. Gambo says:

So Edmonton is my least favourite franchise in the NHL. I’m actually so mad, out of all franchises they deserved McDavid the least.

Bernier + Gardiner for Draisaitl? Is that fair for either side? I’d do it fuursure.

  7. Gambo says:

Apparently Willy Nylander is 189 lbs now.. I don’t remember ever being as excited for a Leafs prospect.

  8. Gambo says:

I keep saying I don’t want Marner, but then I keep seeing Tyler Johnson highlights.

The only team I can see being worse than Toronto next year is Arizona, Toronto should have a really good cupboard of prospects going into the 2016-17 season.

    • LN91 says:

As of right now, I believe the worst team is either Toronto or Arizona.

However, I have no real clue.

In Torontos case, if Kadri/Reilly/Gardiner/Holland all finally have a breakout season, then Toronto could be a bit screwed.

    • leafs_wallace93 says:

I’ve been shitting on Marner all year but if we end up with I won’t complain.

I just hope to God we move Kadri.

      • leafmeister says:

I would only move Kadri if his contract demands are absurd. They would be selling very low on him if they move him now.

He is a much better player than his production indicated this year, and is the exact kind of puck-possession oriented centre that we could use for the 2nd line. Hopefully they can take advantage of his down year and sign him long term for a discount.

  9. leafy says:

Who’s gonna win Tampa vs Detroit game 7? Kronvall will be missed, but it’s still pretty close. I’m going with Tampa just based on a hunch.

  10. leafy says:

If I was the Leafs, I’d make it a top priority to trade Bernier at the draft for possibly another first pick. The Leafs don’t need Bernier if they’re serious about tanking another season.

  11. nordiques100 says:

Kadri I believe will be a leaf over the long haul, unless he decides he is worthy of like 5-6 million per season over at least 5 years. That is going to be quite the interesting contract negotiation.

The same goes for Bernier. He too is undeserving of that kind of money. I think it is suicide for a team’s cap to commit more than 5 mil to a goalie. Unless your name is Price, Lundqvist or Quick.

If it starts to get to those levels, Toronto should cut bait. I rather stick with Reimer.

    • leafy says:

True, and even if Bernier played for free, why keep him? The Leafs aren’t winning the cup for at least several more years. Trade for a blue chip prospect or high draft pick.

      • nordiques100 says:

Not sure you’d get that much for him to be honest. I think goalies, too many supply, not enough demand.

Why trade 2 young assets for a goalie when you can maybe discover a Andrew Hammond.

That’s the conundrum the Leafs face.

You could give him away, for maybe what they traded to get him in the first place. But i think they will hold on to him. It will again all depend on the financial commitment. I have to believe Shanahan will not give him more than 3.5 million.

        • leafy says:

Yes, I definitely wouldn’t just give up away. There would have to be a good deal.

          • Steven_Leafs0 says:

Agreed, if we could get a low 1st, or high 2nd and a decent prospect then I would be ok with trading Bernier. Other than that we are better off signing him to a 3-4 year deal for $3-4M per and hoping he develops into a great goalie or let his stock rise a bit and flip him later.
