HABS Report
So the all star weekend has come and gone and now it’s time to talk about how the Habs are REALLY doing so far this season. Ready? OK GO!
1. Tied for 6th place (60 pts. with 49 GP) – good
2. 4th for goals per game (3.08) – good
3. 11th for goals against per game (2.67) – descent could be better
4. 18th for 5 on 5 goals (0.99) – bad needs improving
5. 2nd for power plays (23.9%) – very good
6. 21st in penalty kills (80.8%) – very bad needs a lot of work done here
7. 12th for shots on goal (29.2) – needs to shoot the puck more (need a shooter)
8. 23rd for shots against per game (30.8) – very bad need work to be done on blue line
9. 22nd for face offs (48.6%) – very bad need a face off specialist
So what does this mean?
1. We are a well rounded team and we have the capability to score on all 4 lines with good goaltending and a strong offensive defense. Basically, we have enough talent to win games.
2. We seem to be able to score enough goals per game so when it comes to scoring I guess you could say keep up the good work and if you could maybe score more just in case.
Ps: not so easy to do!
3. We are letting too many pucks pass our own goal line and I think it’s due to our bad shots against per game (30.8), and our bad shots against per games is manly because our defense are letting them do so too easily.
4. In our last couple games I think we’ve improved greatly for 5 on 5 goals but the Habs are known for not being that good 5 on 5. We Need some improvement in that area.
5. We totally rock on power plays. 2nd in the league but we will probably finish 1st……..I hope!
6. We totally suck on the PK we’re 21st in the league with 80.8%…PK’s are hard to work on because no one is really good shorthanded. Maybe some teams are better then others but when you have 1 guy less on your side then the other team your playing against, your probably not going to be better then them. So that’s just something to practice to get better…Carbo should probably make them do more drills for penalty kills…I mean he probably does already but it’s not working so maybe he should change things up a bit. I don’t know who he should replace, he’s the coach, he should know. Or at least try. But I think we could manage with what we’ve got. Lets not shop for a PK specialist, instead lets work on our current PK.
7. 22nd in league for face offs. How many times have you seen MTL give away an extra point or to actually loose a game because Koivu didn’t win that face off with dying seconds in the third period? He’s good don’t get me wrong, but it’s happened…a lot….too much actually. So I think we need a face off dude.
CONCLUSION!!!
We need to work on Shots against per game. We have 5 on 5 issues, PK issues, we need more shots on goal and someone to win more face offs when it’s important.
So maybe someone like Olli Jokinen would be good because he fixes 2 problems. He’s a good face off guy that shoots the puck a lot and scores often. He would probably help the 5 on 5 issue as well.
We also need someone on defense but here is where I get headaches…I’m no good at finding a defense that’s good at closing up on forwards coming for a shot on goal and that can help us on the Pk. So can someone help me here?
I’ve been watching the Habs since 1990 (5 years old haha) and I think I’m doing a descent job at analyzing them but I’ve always had problems with defense. Can someone Help me…and tell Gainey at the same time haha.
I just hope we don’t give up too much for what we need because I really like to see the young guys play with the vets!
