Habs Sign Apparent NCAA Star

On Thursday, the Habs signed former University of Denver Star Brock Trotter to a 3 year Deal (Not an Entry Level Contract) with undisclosed terms. Trotter had left the UofD earlier in the year to declare himself a Pro. His advisor, Don Meehan, told NHL clubs about the declaration a short time later. Trotter was suspended from the University for unknown reasons and according to Denver’s Coach, George Gwozdecky and Habs Director of Player Recruitment, Trevor Timmons, it was a private issue between player and coach.

Trotter is 21 Years old, 5’10” and 180 Pounds and according to Timmons, Trotter is neither a passer or shooter because he does both exceptionally well. Trotter has spent the last 3 years in Denver where he has collected 76 Points in 69 Games over that span.

Year GP G A Pts PIM

06-07 40 16 24 40 22
07-08 24 13 18 31 14

All I can say is that the Leafs aren’t the only team that can find apparent non-Drafted Gems. All indications point towards Trotter being a legitimate Top 6 Threat and it’ll be very interesting to see if he can make the jump to the Habs after the Deadline though that’s highly unlikely. I see him finishing the year in Hamilton and making Montreal next year.
