Could the Habs trade Briere to the Devils for Volchenkov?

Randy Miller of makes a case for the New Jersey Devils to acquire veteran winger DanielĀ Briere from the Montreal Canadiens, saying that Briere may not be happy with his playing situation in Montreal, could be a top-line centre with the Devils and would be closer to his sons who live in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

Miller suggests that swapping Briere for defenceman AntonĀ Volchenkov could work, as Volchenkov carries a $4.25 million cap hit through 2015-16 and Briere has a $4 million hit through next season.

First Damian Cox says trade Kessel for Monahan at the draft, now we’re getting Stammer? Fire Nonis and hire Cox already.

Hard to believe that he will be available.

I know everyone wants to believe that he will come to T.O. because he was raised a Leafs fan…But superstar players do not fall into the market anymore. I still believe most of his great years will be in TB. It’s a great situation for him right now.

So Poile robbed the Oiler’s lol.

Not only does he get rid of a useless 4th liner, but that 4th liner still had 3 more years at 1.85 million on his contract. And he got the Oilers to retain half of Dubnyk’s salary this year lol. Meaning the Preds actually cleared a 100 grand in salary too. Could mean Rinne is out for the season or most of it though. Gives teh Preds a prototypical Preds netminder to work with.

I guess getting Scrivens wasn’t awful for the Oilers. They don’t really need more picks, so it’s a small risk if he doesn’t work out.

Also, three game winning streak!Yeah, yeah, yeah two of them have been shootout wins, and everyone below them has 1, 2, or 3 games in hand on them, but whatever. Winning streak is a winning streak and the Leafs are still in a playoff spot.

Also good to see Holland actually being used more than 8-10 minutes a game. I’m still very much on the “fire Carlyle” crowd, but at least he’s not being totally moronic some of the time.

9 Shootout wins lol. That’s a nice change from last year’s horrendous shootout results.

On another note, Bozak has been great for us this year. He’s hitting, he’s blocking, he’s playing both PK and SH time, he’s scoring and helping both Kessel and JVR play well, he’s coming through in the Shootout. Virtually the only thing he hasn’t been good at is winning faceoffs, which is pretty ironic since last year that was his biggest strength and one of the main reasons Nonis resigned him. It would also help if he stayed healthy too…
