Devils’ Martin Brodeur pretty sure he’s not retiring, and seems to be warming up to moving on

Devils goalie Martin Brodeur really has enjoyed seeing a lot of game action and playing pretty well the last month during a late-season stretch in which his team is fighting for a playoff spot.

He never saw this opportunity coming… not after Cory Schneider played almost every game for two months … not after knowing for sure that being traded before the NHL’s March 5 deadline was a real possibility.

Brodeur still wants to play

Martin Brodeur trade rumors heat up with Blackhawks, Wild scouting Devils

Interestingly, it just so happens that the Wild and Blackhawks are two teams supposedly interested in working a deal with the Devils for goalie legend Martin Brodeur before the NHL’s March 5 trade deadline.

Devils: GM Lou Lamoriello weighs trades

If the Devils are to avoid missing the playoffs for a second straight season, they will have to find a way to score more goals. That much is certain.

What is not so clear is where they’ll get those goals. The NHL trade deadline is March 5, if general manager Lou Lamoriello can swing a deal for a goal-scorer.

Martin Brodeur could be facing the final two weeks of his Devils career

As improbable as it sounds, Martin Brodeur could be entering the final two weeks of his Devils career.

BYE-BYE MARTY

You’ll probably be hearing and reading a lot about Martin Brodeur over the next two weeks because his history-making two decades with the Devils could be coming to an end. Brodeur was platooning in goal for most of the season with Cory Schneider, but now is a 41-year-old backup who sat six games in a row and eight of nine before the break.

Brodeur “open” to being traded by Devils; “If there’s a better sitiuation for me, I’ll take it”

The idea of Martin Brodeur playing for a team other than the Devils was pretty much unthinkable until he brought it up on Jan. 12 in Toronto when discussing if he would play beyond when his contract expires after this season.

Now, as Cory Schneider settles into the No. 1 goaltender job that Brodeur had held for 20 seasons, the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer sounds more and more like a man who might be ready to move on before that.

Devils still seeking offense

This team is seeking a viable left winger to play with center Travis Zajac and the ageless Jaromir Jagr. Coach Pete DeBoer decided veteran Dainius Zubrus wasn’t the optimal fit there.

Could the Habs trade Briere to the Devils for Volchenkov?

Randy Miller of NJ.com makes a case for the New Jersey Devils to acquire veteran winger Daniel Briere from the Montreal Canadiens, saying that Briere may not be happy with his playing situation in Montreal, could be a top-line centre with the Devils and would be closer to his sons who live in Haddonfield, New Jersey.

NHL trade deadline: 6 scorers who should be on Devils’ radar

Here are 6 players who can become unrestricted free agents next summer that should be on the Devils’ radar in March:

Brodeur would consider waving no-trade if Devils aren’t contenders

Jaromir Jagr does not have a no-trade clause but Martin Brodeur, who does, told The Star-Ledger he would consider going to a contender.

“I hope it will never happen , but if there is a situation that could be really fun for me and really good for the Devils, why not? It’s not like I’m going to play 25 more years here,” Brodeur said Tuesday.

RUMOURS DU JOUR:

RUMOURS DU JOUR: New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello sent out an email last week offering up an unnamed “veteran defenceman” around. D Marek Zidlicky, 36, is the oldest player on the club’s blueline while D Anton Volchenkov, D Peter Harrold and Andy Greene all qualify in the “veteran” category. It is doubtful the Devils will be able to move anybody.

Martin Brodeur: Is it time for legendary New Jersey Devils goalie to move on? Cox

It shouldn’t end this way for Martin Brodeur.

As the backup to an as-yet-unproven goalkeeper on what may be the worst New Jersey Devils team ever.

And, Mickey Mouse past acknowledged, that’s saying something.
