Heika: What it could cost to trade for Winnipeg defensemen Dustin Byfuglien
Do you think the Stars will make a play to get Dustin Byfuglien? What’ll it cost? Also, do the Stars start looking for a new goalie prospect since Jack Campbell isn’t doing too well?
Heika: I do think the Stars are in the market for a high-end defenseman, and they will be in talks with any that are available. Alex Goligoski, Jason Demers and Jordie Benn can all become UFAs in the summer, and Jim Nill is in the process of assessing those players. He also has two capable youngsters in Patrik Nemeth and Jamie Oleskiak, as well as three great prospects in the minors.
So Nill has to decide if he wants to trade some of those five or six young defensemen to get a player like Byfuglien or Brent Burns in San Jose. Of course, those teams have to want to trade with you. As for the goalies, Desrosiers is still there and there’s always a chance Campbell bounces back.
