Insider Trading: Imminent Ladd trade should open up floodgates

There will be a lot of forward thinking at this year’s NHL trade deadline because there is no shortage of wingers and centres available.

But, for the market to shake loose, it seems either Winnipeg Jets captain Andrew Ladd or Boston Bruins scorer Loui Eriksson has to get moved so that the contenders can turn their attention elsewhere.

“A couple of guys at the top may need to get moved,” said a league executive on Thursday, with the deadline set for Monday at 3 p.m. EST.

In the case of Ladd, he’s almost certainly going to moved — it’s just a matter of when and where because the two sides aren’t close in contract talks. The Kings, Hawks, Panthers, Capitals, Blues and Predators are all looking for help up front.
