Teams like the Leafs & Sabres need many of these top teams to decide they have a real shot this year and need to add to their teams. The more teams thinking they have a shot and needing the same type of players will drive up the market value. GM’s will pay if they need to take a shot, MO. The difference better not be a 2nd to 1st round pick in the eyes of the owners, as much as many feel it would cost a GM their job surrendering a 1st same could be said if owners think they didn’t take the risks needed to win.

Reaaalllyyy hoping Nashville goes for it all this year and somehow the Leafs can get Seth Jones from them. As long as the Leafs don’t give up Rielly, Nylander, draft picks and prefferably JVR, I don’t care what goes.

I’m starting to think it might be a good idea to hold onto Kadri… For now. Unless he’s part of a package deal to bring in something great, keeping him might be smart.

Kadri is 24. If Bozak is shipped out, Kadri can start getting 1st line minutes and can work the 1st PP. This will surely improve his offensive numbers a lot. The three scenarios I see happening from this is 1) his trade value increases from what it is now, 2) he actually develops into a Claude Giroux type first line center, or 3) he stays the same and they get the same value in return as they would if they traded him now.

Worth the risk i’d say. Plus he’s young enough to be a part of this rebuild.

How is Giroux any better than Kessel? He’s just a points monkey that can’t backcheck for lead a winning team.

      • Gambo says:

Didn’t say that. But i’d argue he is. Center position is more valuable, Giroux puts up more points and is better defensively.

Having an elite player in a few years when the team is gunning for a playoff spot and their goal is to win the Cup with that core is far more better than having an elite player on a team that cant make the playoffs and is rebuilding. Kessel won’t be the same player by the time this team is good.

Unlike Phaneuf he’s a real leader.

I know I’ve been saying this for about 2 years now, but I’d really like the Leafs to go after Adam Larsson. He’s another big, young, right handed two way defenseman like Seth Jones who would be the perfect partner for Rielly. He’s finally started playing well now after everyone had been calling him a bust for a couple years. Maybe his value increased too much. I saw a proposal on hfboards that had a Kessel for Larsson swap which is just down right ridiculous.

Something about rebuilding is exciting haha.

Evander Kane is available. Think we should be all over that. At the deadline and at the draft we could have traded: Lupul, Bozak, Phaneuf, Franson, Reimer, Santo, Winnik. That is a significant amount of picks/prospects, sounds like we could use some of them for Kane as the price is not too high. Problem is a bunch of other teams will be interested.

    • Gambo says:

I thknk a swap of Evander Kane and Nail Yakupov would benefit both teams and both players.

      • doorman says:

Yes, it would at least give the Oilers some grit, but do they want to trade problem childs so to speak? I think the oilers win that big IMO. I don’t love Kane but in the right surroundings he could be golden. A place with a strong leader like Toews, wow I could only imagine.

I wouldn’t mind the Leafs rising him, even for Kessel. The other pieces coming back have to Ehlers and Morrissey with him,. That’s a chance I would surly take, but don’t think the Jets do

        • blaze says:

What is Toews gunna say to Kane that Big Buff and Ladd didn’t. If he improves its because a trade woke him up. Not because the introvert Teows gave him a ‘pep’ talk.

          • doorman says:

Toews, is the best leader in hockey period, respect makes guys fall in line that may not usually. Being big doesn’t get you respect at all. Ladd is a good player Toews he is not.

            • blaze says:

They were so frustrated with his behaviour they threw his shit in the shower.

Again Toews may be a world class player but that doesn’t mean Kane will grow up because Toews is out there working hard.

If he changes it because a trade woke him up, which is likely to happen, too talented.

              • doorman says:

See and that’s not what leadership is or how it should come across. Not saying Kane’s actions don’t help him get what he does, but what happened there is not leadership. There are certain players that just command it somehow and Toews is one. Example Crosby phoning Toews to ask if he had an issues with him being named captain of team Canada.

The Natural, would love Kane, I know he’s a winger… but look at how Boston when Boston was good, they had big, tough, rough wingers in their top six. Kane and JVR give us size.

Kane being injured all season, helps Tank Nation given Jets will can players to help their playoff run.

Playoff bound teams will only offer them futures. Think Lupul + Kadri/Bozak could get it done.

    • TmLeafan says:

Ya I agree. Problem is that WPG has the most boring GM in the league so only way he makes a trade is if someone blows his socks off. Gardiner should only be moved for a centre and we need Kadri because we are so short down the middle. I could see us giving them some prospects acquired in a Phaneuf/Franson Lupul firesale.

  6. leafs_wallace93 says:

    Lupul, Bernier for Kane +

Money works and cements our tank. Shanny run this team like a fan would already.
