What do people think about the Franson and Santorelli trade?

    • LN91 says:

Well, first, I like how both guys once played for Nashville. Kind of funny.

It’s not a bad deal…Jonkinen is a salary dump, Toronto gets another pick in the Top-30, and Leipsic is a 20-year old who has 35 points in 47 games this year in Milwaukee AHL (He had 91 points in 60 for the Portland WinterHawks in his last year of junior).

Overall, a solid deal for Toronto for 2 guys who would be UFA.

120 in 68gp. He is develloping perfectly so far.

        Franson(UFA) > 1st round pick (22-30)
        Santorelli(UFA) > Leipsic
And Jokinen is a cap dump that could get us a 5th rounder at the deadline.

Huge win of a trade for the Leafs.

120 points in the year before*** left that sentence out lol.

The most important thing is getting value. Not letting guys walk for free.

Toronto now needs a second-round pick (somehow) in this years draft.

I wonder what happens next…Although, I might keep Jokinen. His lack of speed and terrible play would benefit the Leafs.

          • Mapleleaves says:

They are saying Jokinen is likely to be traded.. for what I wonder. I’d imagine he would be added to another deal like he was on this one.

    • LN91 says:

Leipsic is a strong prospect too…

      Step up from Bournival :)

      • leafy says:

He put up some really good numbers in junior and doing pretty good in the AHL. Could be a solid point producer one day for the Leafs.

Now hopefully Nashville loses some games and the first pick is earlier.

    As per Pierre Lebrun
“Leafs are not close yet on a Winnik trade. Lots of interest but can wait until price is met. Want a 2nd and a 3rd or a 2nd and a prospect”

If they can get a 2nd for winnik I’d be happy. Since Jokinen isn’t happy about being traded to Toronto I wonder how long it takes them to move him.

Yeah, a 2nd-round pick would be incredible…Considering the last rebuild brought in:

      – Antropov brought a 2nd-round pick.
      – Ponikarovsky brought in Luca Caputi and Martin Skoula.
      – Hal Gill brought a 2nd-round pick and 5th round pick.
      – Kubina brought Exelby and Stuart.
      – McCabe brought negative value.

Only decent value trade was Kaberle:

      – 1st, 2nd, and Joe Colborne (who they let go a bit too early).

The Leafs already got a 1st and a decent prospect…And still have Winnik and Booth to bring in some value for now (some bigger pieces can bring in a bigger return).

      • leafs_wallace93 says:

And Kaberle brought Jeff Carter & a 1st

        Mats brought Grabovski, a 1st and a 2nd

        Kubina brought Clowe

Oh wait, Mats pissed on everyone.

Hockey’s Future calls Leipsic an energetic player who hits everything and has great finishing skills. Sounds like a Darcy Tucker type forward and if he’s half as good as Tucker, it’s a big coup for the Leafs.

Interesting fact: Brendan Leipsic’s mom was a gymnast who represented Canada at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
