He has a career high 22 goals and 36 points, with a +11 this season in 46 games and leads the NHL in shorthanded goals with seven. This eclipses his previous highs of 20 goals and 35 points in 80 games, set last season.

What do you think of this signing? And what will it mean for other UFA/RFA players of similar talent?Personally, it seems expensive. One could compare him to Scott Hartnell and his $4.2 million a season for 6 seasons, who this year has 16 goals and 28 points in 44 games, though he has been on fire of late.

However, I certainly hope these two guys’ contracts don’t have a big effect on similarly talented players, or else a guy like Michel Ouellet, who had 19 goals and 48 points in 73 games last season, might have had a similar contract, rather than the fitting $1.25 million a year for two years that he got.
