Sanford signs

The Canucks have signed goaltender to a one-year deal worth $600,000.

Sanford spent the last two seasons with the St. Louis Blues and appeared in 31 games in 2006-07, posting a 8-12-5 record with a 3.18 goals against average.

“I just felt that it was a good fit, I get to learn from one of the best in the game,” Sanford told Vancouver’s CKNW.

Sanford will backup , who played the majority of games last season for the Canucks.

“Who knows how many games I’m going to get in, I know Roberto is a workhorse. He’s obviously one of the best, if not the best, in the game right now. Whether it’s five or ten games, you know that’s 20 points for the Vancouver Canucks. I’m just going to do my part and make sure that when I’m in the net I’m giving the team a chance to win.”

Sanford went undrafted coming out of the OHL and was signed by the St. Louis Blues as a free agent in October 2000.

He has played in 73 career NHL games and posted a 26-26-10 record, with a 2.79 GAA.
