What is Bob Gainey Doing with Carey Price?
So Carey Price gets called up after playing about a month in the AHL and he had average numbers. A lot of fans are questioning the move or judging Bob Gainey for rushing Carey Price in the NHL.
I believe there is a plan behind this…
Carey Price had some playing time with the Hamilton Bulldogs. His record was 6-4. 2.89 GAA with 1 shutout. He had a couple of bad games there as well but the Bulldogs aren’t the same team as they were last year when they won, having most of that roster now playing in the NHL with the Canadiens.
Is this going to play with Huet’s confidence?
I believe so. Since Price got sent down Huet has been playing pretty good but the problem is that he is a UFA at seasons end and he probably won’t stick around. I believe Bob Gainey has a plan to showcase Huet and give Carey Price playing time to build his confidence and take over. Now he hasn’t played a game yet but all signs point to Thursday being Carey Price’s first game(Against the Leafs…Funny how they call him up to play the Leafs!).
Huet has been playing good but he isn’t the reason Montreal has been surging the past month. His stats are pretty good but Montreal’s PK has been getting the job done, the 5on5 has been better(Except Sunday’s game vs. the Rangers) and the Power play is still kicking. Point being they haven’t had to rely on goaltending that much.
Carey Price got called up because he will play, why wouldn’t he? I believe the organization will give him the opportunity to snatch the job from Huet and make Huet trade bait before the deadline or before the draft so they won’t loose him for nothing.
As much as I like the Montreal’s chances with Huet right now Bob Gainey needs to think about the future rather then the present because he knows he has a franchise goalie in the making. Carey Price doesn’t belong in the AHL. He’s accomplished everything prior to his NHL career. His goal will be the NHL right now…As a Hab fan I’m pretty exited to see how things will turn out. Feeling bad for Halak right now, he hasn’t gotten a chance to play a game in the NHL as is just being used an insurance goalie incase Huet or Price gets hurt.

Any Thoughts? What would you do with Carey Price? Ride Huet knowing he will walk July 1rst or give Price the oppertunity/experience and try to get something for Huet before the deadline/before the draft?
My opinion:
Keep them both for the playoffs, If one goes down you have the other.
