Forsberg's visit will be all about Sakic's big night

Former Avalanche star Peter Forsberg will be at the Pepsi Center on Thursday night, but not to resume his NHL career with the Avs.

Lombardi invites Gretzky back to the Kings…but don't buy new 99 jerseys y

It started as a joke during a conversation with a Toronto radio station, though Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi should know that Toronto media take hockey very seriously.

Sens Seek Quick Turnaround

The Dany Heatley era has come to an end for the Ottawa Senators and it could not come soon enough for the franchise.

It was a trying summer for the team and GM Bryan Murray as they had to deal with a player who made it clear he wanted out. But wanting out was not the problem. It was the reasons for it, the lack of ice time, the lack of importance on the team, that were most bothersome to the Sens.

A Monster Mash

The Leafs are up to their old tricks. Remember the days of giving up leads, in 2 goal scoring flurries over a span of two minutes. Well those days aren’t entirely gone.

New Coaches Bring Fresh Change to Edmonton

When one looks at the roster of the Edmonton Oilers they will find few changes. It was not from a lack of effort. The team was in the thick of the Dany Heatley Sweepstakes and were involved in plenty of other battles for trades and/or free agency.

But they unfortunately came up short other than replacing goaltender Dwayne Roloson with Khabibulin.

However, this could be a very different looking Oiler squad from the past few years due to one change: Pat Quinn. The new bench boss and a revamped staff has brought about a change in philosophy and with that should help the Oilers change from being a stale, stagnant franchise to maybe one with some potential.

As December approaches the Olympic teams become a bigger topic. The 2 favorites to win Gold are obviously Canada and Russia. Here’s a break down of potential lineups.

Prediction Time

With the season just around the corner it’s time to start looking into the crystal ball. Here are my picks for how the teams will finish with rough point projections, and the leading scorer for each team.

New Look Rangers Looking To Move Forward

The New York Rangers have made 4 consecutive playoff appearances after 7 straight years of being on the outside looking in. However, they have not exactly gone as far as they would have liked and as a result changes were made.

It all started with John Tortorella being appointed head coach. The former cup winner in Tampa, Torts will definitely bring some intensity, accountability and energy behind the bench.

On the ice, there may be as many as 10 new faces after a very busy summer by GM Glen Sather. Hopefully now they’ve found the right tonic to at least take the next step in their drive for a championship.

Flames Reload To Challenge Out West

The Calgary Flames have had a difficult time living up to expectations. After reaching Game 7 of the finals back in 2004, many felt the Flames were on the cusp of something.

Instead they have fizzled and have done nothing but bow out rather meekly in the playoffs. For a team with lots of high end talent, expensive stars and high expectations, that is unacceptable.

So the team made one of the biggest splashes this summer getting one of the big free agents available and added a top coach with the hopes that they have finally found the missing element to take them to the next level.

Flames RELEASE Fleury

As per Daren Millard of HockeyCentral, the Calgary Flames have released F Theo Fleury. In a text message sent to Millard by Fleury, he said he “was going to take a few days to reflect”.
