McKenzie: “I don’t believe the Vancouver #Canucks are talking to Buffalo at all about Evander Kane anymore.” #Sabres SiriusXM

Sabres won’t let Kane go for a steal
Here’s what it sounds like happened with Vancouver, Buffalo and Evander Kane: There were a lot of assumptions the price would be low, that the Sabres would be so desperate to do this that the Canucks would get a steal.
Sabres GM Tim Murray made it clear that would not be the case. (Neither team would comment.)

Sabres looking to trade Kane
Mike Harrington: Evander Kane hears the trade talk. He’s just looking for goals
The latest tempest is whether or not Kane is staying in Buffalo. His hometown team, the Vancouver Canucks, has been on the prowl for him but the timing of a trade is quite odd. Kane has no goals in seven games since returning from the rib injuries he suffered in the season opener and still has another year left on his contract at a cap hit of $5.25 million.

Sabres Notebook: What to do with eight healthy defensemen?
The Buffalo Sabres have had eight healthy defensemen in practice the last two days, something they haven’t had all season with the long-term injuries suffered by Zach Bogosian and Mark Pysyk. Coach Dan Bylsma has said several times this season he abhors having eight on his roster and the team would have to do something about the situation if it ever evolved.
“We’re there,” Bylsma said with a pained smile after practice Tuesday in First Niagara Center.
Mike Weber and Carlo Colaiacovo will sit out Wednesday’s game in Montreal but Bylsma said he expects to see seven of the eight play over the next four days, when the team has the matchup with the Habs and a home-and-home series against Boston.

Murray has a decision to make on McGinn
Will Murray let McGinn remain in Buffalo and be part of the vital lessons being learned by a budding team, or will the general manager ship out the pending unrestricted free agent for an asset who won’t feel the pride of taking the rebuild’s first steps?
Sabres are sellers at trade deadline
“This is the process. If I can acquire younger assets or future assets for some of our veterans, especially veterans on expiring contracts, I’m going to pursue that for sure.”
Did Babcock play the Sabres?
League source tells me #Sabres thought they had deal in principle w/ Babcock 2 days ago around same term/dollars as Leafs. Maybe even 9 yrs.

Sabres will try to move their 2nd round pick
They'll try to trade it for either a goalie or with a player to move up. Might be hard to do the latter. https://t.co/JXUW6jvVkA
