If Alex Pietrangelo is available next year, you’d be much better off spending the money there.

What has PK done to warrant that money? He’s got a bad rep, saw his goal totals drop to half while taking more shots, and takes a decent amount of penalties. Considering he wants more than a short term deal, I don’t see many teams lining up to pay 6.7. I’m not saying he won’t ever be worth that, but it’s a huge risk for somebody who’s been completely over hyped, based on just having a ton of potential. Maybe this year he’ll be much better, but his first 2 years don’t warrant a contract like that.

I don’t really get how no one is talking about offering PK an offer sheet. Seriously, a player of his caliber playing on a shit team (not to mention them being the rivals of his childhood team) potentially going into the season unsigned. Especially if your a team that won’t be giving up a crazy high 1st or two for him.

Side not, I assume it is the case, but does the new CBA change the compensation packages and levels for RFAs?

The Leafs should send him an offer sheet. If it’s between 5 and 6.7 mil the compensation is a 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I’m thinking something along the lines of 5 years 30mil.
