Agent: Nyls to Russia Is News to Him

If Michael Nylander is close to agreeing to play next season in the Kontinental Hockey League, as a recent report out of Russia has suggested, that’s news to Nylander’s agent.“For a year I’ve been hearing the [rumors],” Bill Zito told me earlier today. “Michael called me a couple times and asked, ‘Have you talked to these guys?’ In the past it’s been Yaroslavl, then it was Moscow, then it was St. Pete. We haven’t spoken to them, and anyway, he has a contract with Washington.”

Zito was limited in what he could say about his client’s sticky situation in Washington, but added that he expects Nylander, who is set to earn $5.5 million, to report to Kettler Capitals Iceplex in September in shape and ready to play.

“He has to,” Zito said. “Unless he gets moved, he has to.”
