Fire Gainey, get the new G.M. to trade away all our prospects, and watch as they all bloom into nhl calliber players with other teams, and the habs stay in the bottom 3rd of the league for another 10 years! Some people dont have a clue.

montreal didnt offer him more money, 42 million, how is that more money then 52 million that he got from philly? Jean Beliveau even called Briere and he didnt sign.

you don't think lapierre has a spot sewn up? i'm assuming he does because he's the perfect 4th line centre...native Montrealer who's a real sh!t disturber who's tough to play against..

as for kost and latendresse, i'd rather see kostitsyn on one of the top 2 lines because he does look a bit more polished. i think latendresse could benefit from playing with a greaybeard like smolinsky

Good article, but I will no longer blindly support Gainey, as that has not worked, I don't think we should fire him yet either. People are all saying we should get a big name player now, when it is the worst possible time. You get big name free agents when teams that have superstars are struggling during the regular season and need a shakeup (a la Thornton).

Totally agreed.
People are worrying to much. Bob knows what he's doing, that's why he's a GM.
What I don't like about the habs though... is the fact that the coaching is mostly DEFENSIVE minded... that's why Kovalev is not playing to his full potential.
To this I include the draft... FINE, we have a lot of defensive back there now! And the only problem in Hamilton is the defensive players. None are stars. They play well though! Don't get me wrong on that!
We have good talent up front, but they are all small! (Locke... Urquhart... Grabovski). We'd need some major star CENTER to draft!!

I don't cheer for the Leafs, but Sundin's a very good center to have. We need that kind of center in Montreal. Briere is not that kind we need... definitively not! Neither Patrice Bergeron.

Brisebois back is great. He's a good veteran. He can play very well defensively, and is able to control a Power Play (not scoring... but controlling). At MAX 1.4M a year... it's quite good. If he doesn't deliver... he'll only get 700K!

Anyways, Habs are good and fun to watch all winter long! I like hockey overall, and the Habs are my team!

Koivu's not a good leader??? Are you f***ing stupid??? How many times last year did Koivu LEAD those 3rd period comebacks??? Enough to win maybe 15 games. I remember one game in particular against Toronto, Koivu was the SOLE reason why they won. They were down 4-2 in the 3rd and he took the responsibility upon himself and scored 2 goals to tie the game and scored the shootout winner. Koivu may not have the ideal size to be a #1 centre but ya know what, since when has size EVER been a concern for Montreal??? Jacques Lemaire centered LaFleur and he's only 5'11" 180. Damphousse, who centered the #1 line from 93-99, was only 6'1" 191. Koivu's 5'10" 183, and he has more heart and determination then Damphousse and Lemaire combined. So to go on saying that Koivu is "over-rated" is a load of bullshit and for those who say that and call themselves Habs fans should be ashamed of themselves and should do us all a favour and stop "cheering" for the Habs.

the team lost Johnson, Bonk, Perezhogin and Souray from their final day roster and added Kostopoulos, Smolinski, Brisebois and Hamrlik. Samsonov, Niiminna and Aebischer were not playing at the end of last seaosn so losing them didn't open a spot.

Gorges, Lapierre and Murray are on the current roster but will have to compete with rookies for to remain with the team. The team currently has eight defensemen and 12 forwards. They will dress 12 forwards and six defensemen. Chances are they will drop Gorges and Murray and use either Dandenault or Streit as a fourth line forward. Plekanec comes in as the consensus second line center. Latendresse and Kostistyn can fight it out for the remaining spot on the top two lines along with koivu, kovalev, higgins, ryder and plekanec.

double down you were right bob took over theg.m. duties on june2/03 and higgy and komi were both first round picks(i was right) komisarek was drafted in 01 7th overall and higgins was drafted in 02 14th overall i was wrong i'm sorry double down and habsoverserver!under the g.m leadership of andre savard! but the rest in my post wre all of picks of bob's!

double down i think infact i know that higgins and komisarek were both picks of bob! bob took over as g.m in 2002 they wre both first round picks i believe! i know that for sure! infact komisarek was taken in the top 10 one year because we had two first round picks that year because of the with washington capitals that year and we took hainsey as well! then the following year we took higgins1 out of the university of michigan i tthink,i know that he played college hockey with komisarek and i believe it was there!
