But realistically for Thrasher fans, all we are hoping for is to get into the playoffs and make a good showing of it. We've all been waiting for 6+ years for post-season play (some of us have been waiting since the late 70s to see our team in the playoffs, but that's another story).

I'm very much hoping the cliches live on for the team; one game at a time.

Philly can’t win the cup unless Bernie Parent somehow gets in goal, and Calgary I just don’t see. Dallas is a good choice, but I made my pick in september, and gotta stay with it

I believe they can make the playoffs but not win the stanley cup. I think you should leave that up to either the Stars or Calgary. Maybe even Philly.

I know Atlanta has the right stuff this year. They will may it to the Eastern Conference finals at the very least. Lehtonen was the first goalie and very low pick in my fantasy league and I’ve kept and plan to because he is going to top the Wall’s performance in the cup finals without the big pads. Kovalchuk is ridiculous and unstoppable. A goal a game is powerful. Kozlov is a great contribution and playmaker, why trade him? Hossa is very skilled and strong and is a great addition but he has his droughts. Defense….pathetic at best but when u have a mvp goalie in the making and 6gpg offense u can win the cup. Stefan deserves more credit because he is fast and smart but doesn’t get the icetime. Savard is consistent and solid. Bondra back will boost the offense to another goal ever game or every other. Picking up Leetch would be mentally retarded. Shows how some of yall still don’t really understand the game of hockey still. Leetch is a powerplay quarterback, not a Defensive Defenseman and has aged. Offense already provided by the forwards warrants that Brians offensive talents aren’t needed. A stay-at-home blueliner is what they need and I hope they can get him. Then there is no stopping them. Aside from the wings atlanta is my fav team and i hope they go far

I will still back my prediction from September THE THRASHERS WILL WIN THE STANLEY CUP!

How? Some goalie named Lehtonen will be solid, and Ilya Kovalchuck will tear it up.

Well, thats not only it, coaching will be a big part, and barring any injuries, I think they have a solid chance given recent surprises, and I thought Atlanta would be the next surprise.

Thrashers would beat Carolina. They play well against them. They did beat them 9-0 or 8-1

No matter how you slice it, nobody can come up with an explanation to justify the "point". It was a bit much. And probably one of the reasons why Pittsburgh almost came back in that game.

I kinda like the fact that Crosby may be more jazzed at a later date because of that (though, as he gets older he'll learn to just let these things slide). If he's more concentrated on getting some kind of revenge or proving a point, he'll be less inclined to look at the big picture and could easily slip in other areas. Mind games. But I doubt that kind of thing would happen, coaches tend to get very angry if a player is only looking after his own interests.

As a fan, I'm not even thinking about Atlanta reaching the top 4 in the East. I'd be more than happy with 8th place; as long as they make the playoffs, I don't much care where it is. The first round opponent is gonna be tough no matter what place you finish in. Though I think it could be very interesting if Atlanta were to meet Carolina in the first round, having played 8 times during the regular season. The Canes would have the advantage, but probably not as big as some other matchups might be for Atlanta.

Right now the Thrashers have other teams in the East - primarily Toronto, TB, Montreal, NJ, NYR, Buffalo - very worried about their climb up the standings and the way the can just plain ol' outgun you. i don't think they have the D to get into the top 4 or challenge Carolina but you never know.

as for the 'point' gesture made at Crosby you are right - it was blown way out of proportion because of who was involved. no question about it. does that make it a less-classy gesture, or does that make it one that can be justified?

No.

it was a dumb thing to do but it got a lot of headlines and we can all put it to rest. i believe in karma and giving anyone - especially crosby - the motivation to kick your butt somewhere down the line (maybe in a future playoff series) is just dumb. but we'll see.

i think the thrashers are going to make a more sustained run at the playoffs then they ever have - and this was expected.

I think this team can and will make the playoffs because I only see Kari Lethonen getting better and better as the season progresses. The problem is of course defense and I do expect Wadell to go out and get some help there at some point. Nobody is going to want to face this team in the first round of the playoffs with all the powerplays they will get.
