They’re looking for a big name,” the source said. “They’ve talked to a lot of people already.”

Two of the bigger names that the owners have sat down with in the past few months are well known to Islanders and Rangers fans: Pat LaFontaine and Brad Richards.

The Philadelphia Flyers wouldn’t mind moving defenceman Andy McDonald but with a cap hit of $5 million through the 2019-20 campaign that’s pretty much an impossible dream … As TSN’s Darren Dreger reported, Phoenix Coyotes GM John Chayka made an offer the Calgary Flames could refuse for defenceman Dougie Hamilton

Could the Habs trade Pacioretty

Nick Kypreos pondered the possibility on Hockey Night in Canada’s Headlines segment Saturday night.

“There’s no indication that Pacioretty wants out of Montreal,” he said. “But it’s clear from a few other teams that they want to watch this situation closely.

Treliving responds to Hamilton, Maple Leafs trade rumours

*And no, the Flames aren’t shopping Dougie Hamilton.

Rumours, of course, started to swirl when Treliving was spotted at the Leafs game in Toronto against the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Given Hamilton’s relationship to the Toronto area (he played junior in Niagara and grew up in Toronto) coupled with his rocky start to the 2016-17 season, the Maple Leafs’ rumoured interest in the top-four blueliner, and the fact the Flames were set to square off with the Leafs on Wednesday, the dots started connecting.

Could the Bruins look to trade Spooner?

One has to wonder about those possibilities if he continues to be an ill-fitting piece for Claude Julien’s system: would Spooner be one of the main pieces for a top-4 D-man Boston has searched far and wide for over the last couple of seasons, and is it inevitably trending toward an exit with things making the way like perpetual fourth line demotions and an organizational unwillingness to keep him at his preferred center position?

Canucks looking for scoring

Nick Kypreos suggested that, despite Vancouver’s placement near the bottom of the NHL standings, they’re not giving up on the season and are in fact looking to acquire more scoring.

“It doesn’t appear Jim Benning and the Vancouver Canucks are ready to mail it in any time soon, they’re looking for scoring,” Kypreos said. “A lot of teams are looking for scoring. Of course, you’re going to have to move something substantial. Teams are calling for Chris Tanev right now, but Vancouver is saying he’s not available. You can pick as many as you want on defence here, but that’s one player we’re not prepared to go down that route with just yet.”

Radulov thinking long term in Montreal?

With off-season acquisition Alexander Radulov proving a fast fit with the Montreal Canadiens, his agent is reportedly prepared to consider a long-term extension with the club should general manager Marc Bergevin be interested.

“He likes Montreal and the fans have quickly adopted him. I don’t see why this relationship can’t continue,”
